Idaho BS thread in the PNW

We need to make a big movement on here to get everyone to go to HAM. Which sucks since most everyone has a CB already...

 

cause everyone just got CBs more like..haha

i have no problem running both. Most will have CBs at most meets. Cheap, easy to use, easy to setup. Not called CB for nothing..

But i can think of a few cases where HAM woulda been handy on this last trip..

Not trying to convert anyone to it. Don't need it if you don't want it Mark..or Brady..

Im just saying, im getting one hopefully. Would be nice to have someone else do it too..but not needed.

 

I would like it because it will be much clearer than Ham. I rarely got super clear signals on my cb and my bad hearing doesn't go well with static...

 

what is your CB setup again?

well if you get it and me..thats two..so that's a start haha

 

Cobra19 with a wilson antenna. I broke the antenna a few months back though. It met a really low tree branch. Haha

They will never sound as clear as a 2 meter radio period. A good analogy is CB is like AM radio, and 2 meter (HAM) is like FM radio. CB's tx on 27MHz (11 Meter wavelength) and are susceptible to atmospheric and electrical interference. Changing radio propagation for long-distance communications due to the 11-year sunspot cycle is a factor at these frequencies. Plus, CB antenna's are huge. Use a smaller wave, and you can use a smaller antenna.

 

true yes.

but getting a better CB never hurts. every encounter i have had with a uniden 520xl pro has been great. and the fact still remains that almost all of the people we will wheel with will have CBs. So nice to have one that at least works good.

 

Good point. I still refuse to get one lol. I mean, a full wave antenna to get max range out of it would be 36 feet tall! That's just ridiculous.

 

yea. but handy for the groups and most aren't gonna bother with HAM sadly. Im excited to do it. Pretty sure my Dad will do it. He loves that kinda stuff.

 

i would get a ham eventually. but not now. I hardly had enough patience setting up my cb. I dont like radios and i have no patience for them haha.

and yea..with your track record..you'd destroy something with a ham radio install haha

hahahaha ya know what monte, my cb works (for now) and it still nice and secure in m dash and looks kinda cool. So i think im just not going to fuck with it. I dont need the truck burning down either

 

can't argue with that. We know it works..lots a derp was had when you were on the road..it was significantly quieter when you left....hahah

I tell ya, Ive never had a more fun time driving down a desolate road in the middle of nowhere than with like 7 trucks all BSing on the radio. Its the only way to travel. Even the most mundane parts are hilarious

 

Yea it for sure makes the trip more fun. I missed you on some parts for your loud mouth haha was a good time for sure. Great trip.

 

It's nice to have a base station set up too...and if you can get to a repeater that he can hear you can have comms even if you are in BFE. Here is a list of repeaters.
