Does his truck have a roll-over safety switch? most do, in an accident it will shut off the fuel pump and will need to be reset.

No inertia switch on the Tacos. But that doesn't matter, I'm 95% sure he locked up the motor.

Worst comes to worst, the 2nd gen Taco that flat towed him for an hour down to Ridgecrest lives there, and he can use my ARB snatch strap to pull Shane up the trailer alongside the Dodge. I've done it multiple times when we had to get a 2WD truck on a trailer with a failed driveshaft.

Man... I've been keeping up with this since early this morning. What an awesome story!!! Better than television! Guy gets stranded somewhere in the wilderness, sends his GPS coordinates on facebook to a friend, his friend reaches out on this forum, and within hours people are on their way to give this guy a hand even though he is as tough as Rambo and could've survived on his own! Technology is awesome and this forum is awesome! (Could've done without the stupid "insurance claim" bickering back and forth) Other than that, I'm happy about the outcome of this!

Glad you're okay, and from the looks of it, seems that you're probably on your way home by now.
Good job on keeping it together and staying smart.

    Matt...

I don't know what you do for a living, but this is not the first time I've seen you step up and really take charge in getting the word out, organizing help, or dropping everything and getting out there and DOING something.
MAJOR props to you.... and if you aren't already, maybe look into getting into S&R as a profession... you seem to be good at it and always think of others.

You just went up another notch in my book

Theres more to that story if we are talking about the same person, he was convicted of insurance fraud and had to serve some time in county from that same incident. People from TW reported him to the insurance company and they took it from there.

There is a yaw and pitch sensor that will cut off fuel when past certain angles, I know this because I have tripped mine once or twice while on the trail..and its pretty annoying because the motor shuts off when I need it the most, pucker factor really

I knew there was more but never saw the details.
I just wanted to give him a hint as to the reference.

Tripped the "down cycle sensor" in my Vulcan pulling a tight u-turn in a parking lot.
Ya... I went down AFTER the engine shut down. Before that, I was dragging the floorboard but moving just fine.

    Read the whole thing.

Props to all who are helping this guy out, I wish I was close enough to join the effort.

Too bad some are hating on him for going out alone. Sure it's a risk, but it's his prep work that kept him safe long enough for rescue. Things could have gone worse for him if he'd been stuck inside after the roll, but we take calculated risks to pursue what we enjoy.

Hope he gets his rig back together and is able to continue doing what he loves.

It's the way it is. People are taught one way and it is reinforced that is the only safe way.

Life is not about the "only safe way" or we'd die of heart disease sitting on our sofa watching TruTV.

Life is about risk assessment. Some of us are willing to accept more risk than others, and we understand that and prepare for it.
Obviously, Mach375 was well prepared for shit to hit the fan.
Food and water, 8 miles from a settlement, in this weather, that would be survivable for MY fat old ass. In July, maybe not so much.

Solo scuba diving is a major taboo, but thousands of photographers dive solo, because quite frankly, it's a drag being the buddy of a photographer. You can't shoot yourself because it will blow your buddy's shot. You can't stay too close because you'll spook his subject..... and you might go through an entire tank sitting dead still on a rock while your buddy waits for "the moment" to get the shot.
Show up on a commercial dive boat with a camera, and it's like being the kid in school that's always picked last for teams. Your buddy ends up being the guy training to be an instructor who just needs to log bottom time.

BUT.... this is absolutely a lesson for those without the experience to make an informed decision about going out alone... and I don't mean with your lady in the right seat.
