Beach access in NC

does anybody know any places in nc where you can just drive on the beach? i have a good bud thats headin off to germany so a bunch of friends are gettinn together to drive on the beach and go fishin, no matter how for in the obx we gotta go, anybody know of anyspots, but in nc top of sc or bottom of va please

Morris marina in OBX will get you out to the secluded portsmith island where you can camp and drive around.

 

Be careful, the last hurricane wiped out long stretches of beach and cut the main island in at least once place. I doubt they allow vehicles beach access anymore like they did back in my day....see pic....but perhaps there are isolated areas. I was on the beach, dejected in this pic as I had just been rejected by the Naval Aviation school in Pensacola due to my eyesight. I wanted to be a naval aviator like my dad.

 

depends on where you actually live at, if you are close to Northern part of OBX then you can drive on Cornva Beach, thats in Corrolla. easy little drive down RT12 till you hit the sand. No Beach driving in Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, but if you are coming south on rt 168 you can by pass those beaches and go to Oregon Inlet, which is part of the Haterras Beach system. if you want move of a driving then i would suggest Cornva, it has more "road" to drive on. Oregon Inlet is nice and high tide can be fun getting out of. Personally never been any further south than Oregon Inlet so i cant really tell you anything about it.

The beach heading north of Corrolla OBX is pretty nice. I think there is approximately 10 miles of undeveloped forever wild beach before you start hitting beach homes. Watch out for the "Wild Horses". Yes there are a few.

I know a few people that have trashed their 4x4 rental trucks on that strech of beach. The sand gets in everything if you go nuts.

 

Actually "Going Crazy" will get you a ticket and thrown off of the beach. I say this with all the due RESPECT that is needed on the subject. TREAD LIGHTLY on the beach if you plan on coming to the Beach and "Going Crazy" then those of us that go there regularly do not want you to come. We have been fighting Jack Asses for awhile now. IE Bird Lovers are getting tickets to try and get the beaches closed down.

Also, A NEW LAW was just passed about a week ago. YOU MUST STAY AT LEAST 50 FEET AWAY FROM THE HORSES IF POSSIBLE. If they cross you while driving its not a big deal just slow down or stop to let them by. DO NOT FOR ANY REASON chase the horses.

i also agree with munky, its the same people who make it hard to find a legal place to wheel, i inteand to almost crawl the whole way park and fish, if i have to make any holes for any reason fill them back in, i dont wanna be the asshat that gets someone else stuck, me and a bunch of taco owners locally have made a pact to drive the rough terrains of nc, but not tear it up. cause it looks bad on all taco owners when 1 taco does it

 

very true but more than that it looks bad on wheelers, and they usually dont say "Guy driving Taco" They say "4 wheel Drive Enthusiast".

Nothing really North of Corrolla except for the VA Line, i want to come down to Uwharrie but havent gotten a chance to yet. but not in the Taco

 

Carolina Beach is nice and you can camp overnight there, it costs $10 bucks though. and there's a pier within walking distance or you can also surf fish. great spot for camping but not really "wheeling"
