all of those old v8 4runners are either based on the prado or the gx460 which is still within the same platform as the 4runner, not a sequoia since that is a tundra based platform.

I take it you didn't understand the post about the different platforms.

Your post maybe about different platforms but my comment is actually about Toyota not putting the best they got for Tacoma as they have for 4runner.

I think I understand what you are saying after I thought about your post when I went out to smoke, but I think Toyota is looking to keep the Tacoma as a midsize and not step on the full size offerings.

its the same effect on the 4runner. I don't see them going back to a v8 since they would rather you upgrade to a gx460 to get a v8 and the price increase (read profit).

if you stick a v8 in a 4runner or a Tacoma, your going to marginalize the v8 in the other models and lower the value of those, which I don't see happening.

heck if they put a v8 in them, why would I ever contemplate a gx460 or a tundra.

and I thought about getting a tundra for the warden so I could get a v8 that you cant get in a Tacoma, same issue when I decided to get a 2014 4runner, since I had a 2004 sport v8 and wanted the better torque the v8 had back then compared to the v6 now.

it all falls back to making each vehicle distinct, and Toyota does that by engine choice currently.

With what toyota put out for tacoma I'd rather get an older taco and hold on to my money. If they ever make a limited ed with v8 and sc option I'd finance one. Still a fan of tacoma though because all the other trucks are worse but yes competition in this class is good.

I agree totally. competition is a win for the consumer. just look at those industries with a monopoly, stagnant don't upgrade/improve service, etc.

ie: cable tv is a good example.

all I want is some competition to prod Toyota to improve the end product and not feed us crumbs on features.

when I last bought a 2006 Tacoma dcab v6, I thought that was the best truck every. everything was soft, comfortable and top notch. now everything is hard plastic. that was the biggest turn off on this 2012 Tacoma, but the warden couldn't care less, she was back in a Tacoma

heck a corolla/scion has less hard plastic for 1/2 the price almost. how is that an improvement. without competition, a manufacturer will back pedal. you never see the big 3 going backwards in features, etc because they always have competition.

I learned my lesson after dealing with a 07 sonota and now a 10 legacy, I cant wait to get back into a Toyota 4runner and the reliability and quality on the limited.

    this thing looks good.
put your toyota bias to the side for two seconds and look at it from a neutral point of view and give GM credit, they did their homework here finally. this is a serious, if not the first real shot across tacomas hood. The nissan never really compared to me no matter how many features similarities, never looked rugged to me, this does big time.

i'm keeping my Tacoma of course, but to me this means that toyota will finally take us seriously and put the real features on their new truck....like maybe the fucking Hilux this time instead of our watered down version. took them til this year (13 years!) to offer leather and heated seats when other did, seriously!?

I think its a pretty decent looking truck on the exterior. The GMC might be even better looking, usually more aggressive styling than the Chevys. The interior is a bit bland, but looks functional and well featured. I think its a bit naive to think that this is not competition for the Tacoma... An all new mid-size Truck is somthing that has not been since basically 2005! There are GM guys that will buy them for their spoiled 16 year olds, there will be fleets ordering them up in large quantities... all taking chunks out of Tacoma sales. Unless its way over priced and a complete junk pile it is direct competition!

Impressive, 3 engine choices including a 2.8L turbo Diesel.

If Toyota doesn't respond they will lose 30-40% of their Tacoma sales.

This truck is very similar to the Isuzu D-Max which is sold across Asia, Europe and Australia. I am guessing it shares the frame.

The Isuzu is based on the international version of the Colorado.

GM has reportedly made some very big changes to the frame/suspension/everything to make it more suitable for the U.S. market.

I like my cars to run and to enjoy. I am loyal for sure, matter of fact I own 4 toyotas and nothing else. If I wanted to spend my time in the shop constantly or pay for $500 oil changes, I would have bought a Jaguar or Mercedes. Everyone from the Gardener to the pool guy rocks the Tacoma and there's a reason why.

I would totally buy a used beater T-100 before I even considered another truck model. Maybe a used old 4cyl Ford Ranger with 5spd manual, that was a die hard runner too.

The new Colorado does look good from a styling vantage point, but thats where it ends.
All my family owns full size chevys, fords, dodge, etc, and silly crap like wheels bearings, sensors, etc. go out at only like 60k on the odo. They are always telling me, "man, you never have issues with your truck huh?" Nope. Never. And the best part is, I could dump my Tacoma off on Craigslist or as a dealer trade no problem any day of the week for top dollar. Try that with a Colorado.

Tacoma may be getting bland and tired, but it still runs, and runs, no problems and I know I am not alone on that one.

Everyone claiming it's turbo is mislead. The Colorado is already officially up on chevrolets website. It's got a 2.5 4 cyl and a 3.6 v6

"The base engine for the first two trim levels will be a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine that is preliminarily rated for 193 horsepower and 184 pounds-feet of torque. The V-6 (302 hp, 270 pound-feet of torque) will be familiar to some because it's the same all-aluminum 3.6-liter engine used in everything from Chevrolet's new Impala sedan to the GMC Terrain crossover. The biggest powertrain news is that this new midsize will be the first of its class to get a turbo-diesel option: a U.S.-tuned 2.8-liter inline-four-cylinder Duramax GM has been using overseas. The engine is a result of the partnership GM had with VM Motori"

That 2.8L Diesel has a Turbo

Someone brought up a good point in that article about the Chevy brand. They seem to have been making decent vehicles lately but the brand makes them feel cheap and shitty. Maybe they should move away from the Chevy brand?

I agree that it looks cool. GM is still junk compared to Toyota IMO. I have one of each. I'm ready to scrap my wife's trailblazer. What a POS.

Looks like diesels may be becoming a trend here now. Let's hope anyway. Ram, Titan, and now this. Toyota, where you at?!?!?!?!

You all don't want one. Trust me.
I just traded my Colorado two weeks ago for my Taco and by far it wasn't a decent truck. Aside the the top end needing to be rebuilt, in order to change or turn your rotors, you have to disassembles the hubs. The thing had a turning radius of a battleship too. It was comfortable on long trips but the auto e-locker was annoying as fuck and my colorado didn't have the option to turn it off since it was an AUTO e-locker.
The brakes are a MAJOR turn off and I don't see chevy going away from it as it forces the consumers to bring their trucks to a mechanic for service.
I'm pretty handy with a wrench but I needed a torch and a 4' breaker bar to even get one of the bolts to budge. Fuck that noise.
When I bought the truck I was a total dumbass and all about brand loyalty. I almost bought a Frontier or a Taco but didn't want "wun of dem dat dere jap trucks! I'm an 'merican!!!" Yeah, sometimes ignorance ISN'T bliss.
