I've only been keeping half an eye on the thread lately - has anyone had to start peeling open this issue with Toyota Canada yet?

I thought a member from Ottawa posted that he is having his frame replaced (but don't quote me) either in this thread or perhaps he had started his own.

Looks like I got the same BS answer from Toyota!!

Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.
We apologize for the concern you are experiencing regarding frame rust on your 2005 Tacoma.
According to your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number), 5TELU42N65Z081689, we have checked and determined that your 2005 Tacoma is currently not involved in any related Special Service Campaigns or Customer Support Programs.
The warranty on the frame is 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s date of first use, which is 05-13-2005. Once the vehicle is outside of these warranty guidelines the cost of repairs becomes the owner’s responsibility.

Please be aware the information you have provided is used in combination with warranty claims and other customer contacts to track trends with our vehicles. If in the future a Special Service Campaign (SSC)/recall or warranty enhancement is issued that would cover your specific issue, and you have already made repairs to the vehicle, Toyota would review your repairs for reimbursement at that time.

Your email has been documented at our National Headquarters under file #1310162084 and we apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced.
If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact us.
    Sincerely,

    Kym S.

I am trying to reach all later model Tacoma owners who are experiencing problems getting Toyota to help them with the rusting frames...I am working with a reliable source who says to file a complaint with the www.nhtsa.com. We need to make them aware of this situation so they can investigate and get Toyota to fix this problem. Please repost this information so that we can reach as many people as possible ! Wishing you all luck...I will keep you updated.

They must have done a cost study and decided it was cheaper to have national buy backs and pay for deaths and injury from bad frames then it would be to put good frames on our trucks. They bought back my 2000 and did not correct the problem as evidenced by your 2005 and many others from what I read.

Add me to the list. 2005 D-cab Shortbed. I might just grind it all out and weld a plate over it...... Might be 3" across as of now.

The dealer I bought it from, put the CRC on it from the Tundra recall. They basically sprayed this black oily, waxy, gross shit all over my frame. They did a shit job and told me that's all they will do, so I sprayed it will fluid film to cover the gaps in their work. My truck looks like a 2 year old truck everywhere except the frame.

I have not seen that. The bumpers are tin foil. I have backed up in the dark at O mph and crumpled the bumper so it's :eek::eek: 2 think what would happen if someone hit me at 60+ on the interstate. I will say they changed from the box frame - that rusted from the inside out - to a backward C for the rails. They didn't upgrade the metal - it's still shite - obviously. Why they don't buy better quality steel must be $$ or stupidity. They make the best motors/engines so do they they make the frames guaranteed to to rust out so they can sell more trucks.

Looks like they're trying to scare me... I bet the lift and snorkel caused the rust. The welding I could argue with. If it was anywhere near the spots rusting!! Anyway this is the report they are sending Toyota.

    Dear Stan Glomb,

Thank you providing us with an update to your concern.

Our records indicate that the Customer Relations Manager at McGeorge Toyota performed the inspection of your Tacoma at no cost to you and advised that any repairs necessary would be the responsibility of the owner.

I left my truck at the dealer for over a week because they blamed my suspension clunk on "aggressive tires." I also asked about the driveline vibration...again "aggressive tires."

Well we can add my brother in law's 05 TRD sport to the list. Just failed state inspection due to frame rot and it's rusted right next to the converters on each side just like a number of other's I have seen pictures of. He's pissed. Truck has hardly left his garage the last 3 years and it has 60k miles on it. But the first few years of it's life it lived in my dirt driveway. It has the scaliest frame I have ever seen on a second gen. He's got a call in to the dealer he bought it from and I suspect it will be there later this week.

It makes me sick every time I crawl underneath and look at my frame. The body is spotless, but there is no chance this frame is going to survive much longer, even with treating it a couple times a year, and doing under carriage maint. all winter. I had a 1998 Mazda B4000 before buying this Tacoma, it had 250,000 miles and 12 Upstate N.Y. winters on it when sold. The frame had no rust on it compared to this one. The Tacoma frame has flaking rust all over it , not sure what to do at this point.

When I was shopping for my tacoma, I came across an 05 with 70k at a subaru dealership. The body was spotless, and the frame looked a little rusted but nothing too bad. I took it to my uncles shop for him to check out before I bought it, and there was a hole just like the one In the picture by the driver's side cat. And they wanted 18k for this truck!!Now I'm super paranoid about this happening to my truck

Just added my info to the official 2005-Frame rust thread.

2005 Double cab short bed. Production date of June 2004 Perforations on both sides of the frame as everyone else, right next to the cats. The hole on the driver's side is about the size of a golf ball, hole on the passengers is about the size of a marble. Plenty of rust other places on the frame. The dealer filed a claim with Toyota. He said this wasn't the first one he has seen on the 2nd gens but is the worst so far. He seems to believe that the 00-04 frames are identical to the 2005 frames, seems to think I have a Dana frame but I am not sure. Pictures can be seen here

How many of you with frame damage will ever buy a Toyota again? As much as I like my truck with the issues I have had it will likley be my last Toyota unless they finally get there act together.
