Hey guys, So I have a 2005 Ninja 500r and before creating another profile on a different sight and taking it to the shop I was wondering if anyone could help me.
I go through oil really fast. There are no leaks or anything, no drip marks where I park it, or signs. Im sing 10-40 oil and I just filled up exactly a month ago after realizing it was gone and looked at it now and its gone. Also my oil light isnt on and I know it works. Thanks in advance!

It's a 2005. If they where leaking, wouldnt there be sign on the ground? It's parked in the same spot and is ridden about 4 days a week

Does it have high miles, you could always keep filling it up with oil as long as it runs fine.

How much did you have to add when it was "gone"? Are you checking it cold or right after running? Have you drained and refilled with the proper amount?

Well first time, I saw my oil was gone and I had battery problems. Replaced the battery and then the check oil light came, added oil (3 quarts roughly), looked on the centerstand and it was right where it needed to be but pitch black like it was used oil. I checked it after running today and it was about empty, Ill check it cold here in a bit. But you can hear the gear shiftings and when I first added it, you couldnt
I have not drained it yet. I wonder if any will come out

My 1100 has a pcv that runs to the intake sometimes it will blow the oil up into the intake. Only does it with dino oil and not or not as bad with synthetic

    Could be something similar.

Check it with both tires on the ground while holding the bike upright. The center stand my be tilting the bike enough to throw off the reading.

I did this morning and still nothing. It seems like it's burning off but I don't see smoke. I would think i would see it in the morning when I turn on to warm it up but there may not be any oil to burn off. I guess I should fill it again and see if it smokes

Should smoke like crazy if this is what's going on. A thorough cleaning of the PCV hose, and replacement of a stuck, or weak PCV valve (usually cheap $10-$30) should resolve this issue.

I just can't imagine losing that kind of oil without there being a fair amount on the ground, on the bike, or coming out the tail pipe as smoke. Whatever it is, bad valve seals, PCV, worn rings, I would be looking to ditch that bike as soon as possible.

Often times when a bike is burning oil you will smell it long before you see smoke. Does the exhaust smell really rich or have a strong odor?

Have you checked the bottom to see if oil is actually dripping? Could be one of those when its hot and running things...

Thats what I would think, tons of smoke. Especially since I went through 3 quarts in a month and without a spot on the ground. The smoke would be noticable right? And also it just smells like exhaust to me, I can ask a friend to smell his bikes exhaust and compare the two haha

I havent found any leaks or drips on my inspections. Everything looks dry. I added some oil and will monitor it for the next couple weeks and see where it goes

72 Yamaha R5, predessesor to the RD350. 2 stroke 350 twin, almost 40hp and like 300 lbs, this thing is a HOOT to ride. It's been my only bike for the last few years, and it's actually pretty easy to live with for an old bike, it's been very reliable.
