    Yep.
Horse CB? I'd at least stick it on it's ass

IMO, yes; a roof mount is best. Then hood, then bed/tailgate. It all depends on what you want out of it.

My50cal, I looked into that forum and now I'm leaning more towards mounting the antenna in my bed on the rails like one of the members in that forum did (pictured below). Is RG8U still the wire of choice? (I noticed LUSETACO was in that forum as well) If I could get a mount for the bed rails I'd like to put the wilson 4' flex (unless another antenna is recommend, just as long as its black in color and flexes) that would be ideal for me.

So I need to find the mount then buy a stud mount to screw the antenna into, correct? http://www.rightchannelradios.com/cb-accessories/cb-springs-studs-disconnects.html the first three all say firestik, is that just the brand or will the wilson or whatever antenna i get screw in to that? I was also thinking of maybe getting one of the two springs listed. In that link the first one has the screw on piece on the bottom then the 2nd two appear to use this type of coax http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1630072282&pf_rd_i=507846

So I guess depending on what stud mount I go with depends on what coax I need either the one linked or one with screw on ends on each side.

I know I'm asking a lot of questions but with being in Germany I'd like to order the stuff right the first time instead of waiting to get it here then it be the wrong parts and have to send them back and wait again.

    Yep.
Doing this on my phone so bear with me.

For a single ant set up, RG8 with PL-259 connection is best. I do not recommended the fire ring coax, personally went through x2 before I cut the end off and soldered pl259's on.
Wilson or firestick will work, your choice. Same components, just different manufacturers.

Wilson 1000 mag mount in the center of the roof and a Galaxy 959 just back from Snakeradiocustoms. Tim kicked ass with this radio and I have swr of 1.0 - 1.1. Ditch the firesticks as I had a set and they were useless to get a decent swr.

Yes..in every situation a roof mounted antenna will always be better then say a tail gate mounted antenna. Its all about ground plane. Think of the roof as a giant reflector or dish..even a mag mounted antenna on the roof will have higher db gain then a tail gate mounted antenna. Both of my antennas are mounted to the roof. My Ham radio antenna is drilled through the roof in order just to have the best possible gain.

    Check out this chart..

Curious how this applies to a truck (front corner of bed) having a taller roof line and also to NON-Ground-Plane antennas.

I haven't seen one in person but those tailgate mounts look like they leave very little room for body flex in the gap. That gap between the tailgate and bed is small so my only worry would be catching the antenna on something and tweaking the mount so it rubs the tailgate or body or tweaking the body so it flexes and the mount rubs. I could be totally wrong

Personally I would just drill a hole and mount it to the rear bumper off to the side.

Something like this is what I have on my plate bumper and would work on OE with no issues. If you go to sell the truck just dab some black DOW 795 in there and no one would know there was a hole there.

I cannot speak to others experience, only my own.

Currently have two CB set ups, one on my own Tacoma and also set up my father's FJ with basically the same thing.

Cobra 75 with Firestik II, truck has a tailgate mount and FJ has the rear door hing mount.

Both worked great from the start, no trouble at all tuning.

Can I talk to New Zealand, no, but love the set up for what I use it for, trails.

    Your mileage may vary.

So these parts listed below would work? The rep from rightchannelradios said the Wilson 4' flex will work with the 3 way firestik mount.

    Mount:
    http://www.rightchannelradios.com/firestik-3-way-cb-mirror-mount.html

Spring (if i decide to get a spring):
    http://www.rightchannelradios.com/firestik-heavy-duty-cb-antenna-spring.html

    Antenna:
    http://www.rightchannelradios.com/wilson-flex-cb-antenna.html

Coax cable for antenna to cb:
    http://www.rightchannelradios.com/performance-cb-coax-cable-rg-8x.html

then i just need to figure out how to make the piece that goes in the bedrail since im over here with limited resources and how to ground it.

Got my Galaxy 979 mounted up to the roof on a magnet mount system and I'm running a 102" whip on a firestik mount screwed into the bed. Clears the tailgate and I can fold the antenna down when I need to.

I was getting 8+ miles out of my bumper mounted 4' firestick and my crappy cb.

Haven't checked my 102" whip yet.

And I mean strait line miles in the woods on flat land Not road miles.

Used this site after some friends and I drove until we couldn't hear each other and marked down our coordinates. http://boulter.com/gps/distance/

    Yes
If you decide to go the fiberglass whip route I would suggest mounting it outside of the bed.

This is a very clean headliner mount of such a large CB.
    Nice job.

    Yep.
    Yeah man, nice set-up

I think your best best would be to ground it to one of the bolts behind the tail light.
