    There is that. He has the ability to strip the gun down and completely remove all traces of dirt, oil, residue, etc. before he coats it. Plus he says he runs all the parts through a media blaster to remove any spots of rust, and he has a hood that he applies it all in.
    Much better than what I could do at home, haha.
    But I have the same dilemma where I don't have anything that's been Duracoated in my collection, so I can't confirm or refute anything he tells me about how awesome it is.

    Cerakote is more durable than Duracoat.

    I have heard that it is gritty when you coat internal mechanicals with it. Is that true or false in your experience?
    I'd be having EVERY metal piece done, including mechanicals. The wear resistance isn't as much a concern for me as water resistance. The gun will be in a case, but not an airtight one, so humidity...

    If lubricity is a concern, KG Gun Kote is a bake-on epoxy with moly built in. It's slick as snot. I recently did a 1911 and have been racking the crap out of it, carrying it in a kydex holster and it's held up great.

    KG and Cerakote are both significantly more durable than Duracoat. I would not trust anyone to work on my guns who would tell you otherwise.

    Good to know. I'll have to ask him if he does anything with Gun Kote next time I stop in there.

    Very jealous, Beavis! I've been keeping my eye out for a nice, old lever gun.

    Not bad. I saw some of their kits come up for sale but already had a Rock River Arms kit on order for $60.

    I'm guessing that on Black Friday they'll bring back their blem stripped lower + MOE LPK for $99 deal. I hope we'll see the $259 carbine upper deal from last year's BF too. Combine the two for one heck of a price on a decent blaster. Stay tuned...

    They had a Black Friday preview last week, complete upper with BCG and charging handle for $279. I'm hoping to grab one but I'm guessing they'll last all of about 5 minutes.

    I am building a .22 rifle. This is a slow project so I am just picking up parts here and there, trying to slip it past the wife.

    Gents / Ladies –

    I thought you all would like this little Springfield Armory EMP in .40 cal. I purchased this pistol in 2011 and sent it off to the Springfield Armory Custom Shop in January of 2013. I just received it back a few weeks ago and have been using it as my primary EDC pistol.

    It started life off as a standard .40 cal EMP and I asked Springfield’s Custom Shop to do the following:

    1. 11 degree crown on the barrel and flush cut it to the slide;
    2. Install an Ed Brown National Match Speed trigger;
    3. Perform a 4lb action job;
    4. Polish the feed ramps and throat the barrel;
    5. Checker the front strap at 30 LPI;
    6. Perform a Colt undercut on the trigger / front strap;
    7. Round the butt of the frame for concealed carry;
    8. Serrate the rear of the slide and rear sight at 40 LPI;
    9. Cut front cocking serrations into the slide;
    10. Nub the slide stop FBI style;
    11. Install a 10-8 slide stop;
    12. Install a 10-8 rear sight;
    13. Install a Wilson Combat ambidextrous safety;
    14. Install Gunner grips;
    15. Conceal Carry meld and de-horn / burr the entire pistol;
    16. Install an Ed Brown main spring housing with 25 LPI checkering;
    17. Install all 1911-A1 Hi-Cap spring cap, retainer, and pin; and
    18. Ionbond Diamondblack the entire pistol.
    The pistol shoots amazing now and has an incredible feel and balance to it – definitely a great EDC pistol. I wanted a great fighting pistol built and it meets the mark, this will also be the pistol I use when instructing our concealed carry tactical pistol classes. I highly recommend the work performed by the Springfield Armory Custom Shop; if you have the patience…their work is awesome.

    Heh.
    The girlfriend and I celebrated 9 years last month. We're married; we're just missing the ring and the paperwork. I sneak boxes of ammo into the house all the time, haha.
