I tried searching on here for a solution but couldn't find it.

Auto dimmers suck. Most the time at night I get blinded by the rear view mirror as it works only when it wants too. I've littered driven down the road where a car was behind me consistently at the same distance and the mirror would dim then fade back to day time mode and fluctuate slowly to whatever it wants to do.

Anyone have a solution for this? I'd be happy to get rid of it and put an old school mirror but I like having the back up camera, temp and compass since I'm paying for those features.
Is there a mod or a hack or maybe even something to do with settings?
    Thanks.

Mine works pretty good it might be good to take it to the dealership since it is under warranty.

You can just hold down the button for a few seconds to disable it. I don't use the rear view much since I have a camper shell.

You have a 2013, take it in and get the dealer to look at it since it's still under warranty.

I'll gladly trade you my non-auto dimming mirror from my 2014 (still has that new car smell!) for your auto dimming mirror. I'll even throw some cash into the mix!

Try this thread and see if it helps ... also I think you can adjust the settings for the mirror. I remember reading something about it but I don't remember if the article was specific to Tacoma Trucks or other vehicles. I will root around and see if I can find the article. My mirror seems to work fine ... but everyones eyes and expectations are different.

    Cool thanks!

I was thinking the same thing as I was grumbling on my way home from work tonight. Like some ghettotastic sunglass for the the mirror. Honestly, though, if Toyota has a manual mirror that has the backup camera lens, compass and temp, I'd trade it in a heartbeat! I think I'm going to take it in this week and just ride my Motorcycle til they fix this shit.

Sorry ... my bad. The article on auto-dimming mirror adjustment I remembered was for my wife's new Camry. Through a weird set of coincidences I bought my Tacoma and less than 10 days later we had to replace her Camry ... which was a win-win for both of us. I got my new 2013 Tacoma and she was back in a new 2013 Camry V6 XLE. Her car may have more bells and whistles on it than my truck, but I like my truck better.

Odd, I think it's bitchin'! A thousand times better than a conventional mirror. When there aren't lights behind you, it's bright and you can see everything, and when there is a car, it greens up and dims. I personally think you are crazy, or maybe something is wrong with your mirror. This is my first experience with any auto dimming mirror and I am thoroughly amazed!

If it didn't come tinted from the factory (but I'm assuming it did since it is a TRD). Mine has the factory tint on it and I don't even notice my mirror working at all. It may be functioning just fine but no issues with cars blinding me.

Dumb question...but do you have anything hanging off the mirror that is obstructing the photo-sensor ?

Mine works flawlessly, I love it! Get her checked at the dealer, you may have to push for it a bit as it may be hard to mimic.

Here's an update, driving home last night, I felt and found the sensor in the wrong, held my finger there and it started dimming shortly afterwards, I took my finger off and it got brighter and didn't want to work unless someone got on my ass. I'm going to have to take it in I think Monday.
