My cousin says the same thing, that they ruined the Tacoma with the 2nd gen by making it so much bigger. I don't really get that, it's not any bigger with a tape measure. It's not any longer, it's not any wider and it isn't any taller. I know because I owned both and had them in my yard next to each other for a few weeks. Fairly similar packages, both 4x4, both the 265 tires and both bone stock. The 2nd gen looks bigger because of the beefy front end but it's an optical illusion.

This discussion will go on forever.

The interesting thing that has happened this year, though, is that it is now impossible to buy a used 1st gen that is less than TEN YEARS OLD.

Yep - 2nd gen's now been out for full decade of model years: 2005 - 2014.

Funny this thread came up since I bought a 2006 SR5 DCSB about 2 months ago and I am almost wishing I would have looked for a 98-04 AC. I don't know what it is but the older AC but it is just damn sexy. But if I happen to slip one past the goalie at least I don't have to buy a different truck.

They both have their pros/cons but I do enjoy the more "refined" ride the 2nd Gen has and the 4L V6 is definitely nice for getting up into the mountains with all my camping/hunting gear. And the interior room my pup and gf like since they sleep while I drive.

Hahaha, I'm not butt hurt einstein, just stating facts

& I'm sorry I shouldn't call you Einstein, that'd be an insult to Albert..

Living in the past ?? really ?? Well try to wrap your head around this fact

all most everything a 2nd gen is (all that is good anyway) was derived from a 1st gen (with exception to all the plastic, having to cut away not only plastic but chopping the cab mount just so you can fit a slightly bigger than stock tire on & not have it rub...as much haha..)

you don't know your toyota history very well, probably because it's so in the past..

Hey, I like 2nd gens but when some baseless statement devoid of facts i.e: "2nd gen is better than 1st gen in every way."

You think you're not going to get a response ?? I don't care about what was said, only it was said without anything to back it up.....:notsure:

whats wrong ? you act like someone kicked sand on your plastic :D

I like the additional suicide door on the xtra cab on 2nd gen and bigger engine sure but 2nd gen is heavier..

Overall 1st looks better though in my opinion of course and price is cheaper around here compared to 2nd

Cab mount chop is no big deal. It's pretty sad you have to base your opinion on that. Yes the 2nd gen is much better than 1st gen in every way even if it's derived from the 1st gen as you claim. Power, gas mileage, and ride on and off road are much better than the 1st gen.

It has been proven here many times before by people in other threads so why should I prove it again?

Look the second gen is a good truck with mor efreatiures than the first. But then again the first generation is a good truck as well but its only major issue was the frame rust. I like the second gen better because I own one but I still like the smaller size of the first gen.

    Haha, well played...:p

You find it no big deal to chop away at the frame just so a tire 1 size up from stock doesnt destroy itself or rip out the wheel well ?? This is an off road model right ? Not to mention watching a couple fender flairs fly off going down a trail .

Ok , enough flap.. are you anywhere near san diego ?? Lets put it to the test, not even going to trip on the whole ride thing & I agree dude, 2nd gens have more power & better mileage & ride better on the street generally & I love the bigger, plusher cabin, but none of this is an issue , I'm not the one making claims.. So if your close to san diego, lets hit a trail or 2... how 'bout it ??....Dont even have to hit the black diamond rated trails just some obstacles,,,;)

TRD Exhaust, Mobtown bolt on sliders and aluminum tailgate reinforcement, Reverse lights changed to yellow turn signals, LED pods added for reverse, ADD W1 oil catch can, Total Chaos bed reinforcement, rear diff breather to taillight mod, 12" combo led bars behind lower grill wired to high beams, Toyota led bed light kit, 400 watt anytime mod, SSO slimeline front bumper.

I don't know what everybody is talking about with the mileage. I got better mileage with my 02 TRD 4WD 5 speed than I ever have with my 13 TRD 4WD 6 speed. I keep getting disappointed with the crap mileage I am getting with my 13, I still have hope though.

Also to the people who say the gen 2s aren't longer and wider, I can sell you a tape measure if you need it. The 2's are definitely longer and wider.

I love my 2 gen but there are some things I miss about my gen 1, and I also loved it and the looks of it.
