So who is in the field??

Post up what do you do...

I am an architect, I do almost everything from architectural design through construction, supervision, also work with graphics, project visualization, interior design....all ranges of projects....

 

I have a CE degree and work for a contractor that builds power plants. Currently working at a $2 billion 700 MW coal fired plant.

Yea, not bad for straight out of college. It's amazing what you don't learn in school and what you don't use that you learned. Most everything I do has been learned on the job.

 

I am a PE (Civil) licensed in 10 states. Once you get one, the rest are easy....

Work for a multi national company that does a ton a Federal and State work. Currently working on several K-12 schools projects in New York, New Jersey and Delaware.

Good to see that an architect has the sense to purchase a Taco. Just Kidding. I work with many architects.

 

My job title is heavy equipment operator, however over the last year most of my time has been spent on GPS grade control. I've been doing everything from basic grade control to setting up the hand held rovers and laser assisted gps controls on road graders and paving machines. My company has recently started doing a lot of highway work and I have been doing most of the layout and grade control with gps on these jobs. There only a hand full of people in our company of 200 that work with the gps systems so I have pretty good job security.

 

i have construction management degree, started working in the field as a commercial plumber to get some field experience before they move up as a project manager for a small company. anyway, I don't want to go to the office for awhile now, i'm loving working on the jobs and not sitting on my ass at a desk 9 hours a day.

 

I did something fairly similar, although worked as a Surveyor for a residential and mixed-use developer. Eventually I started writing the .TTMs that the grade control systems run off. It was a good job and good money, that is until the construction market hit a brick wall.

None the less it is pretty cool to take a set of plans, turn them into a bunch of dots and lines, and then the finished product a 3D model. Automated grade control has went leaps and bounds in the last few years.

 

I work for a large GC in Dallas. I am currently an estimator, so I ride a desk with a nice computer setup. It's not a bad gig, fairly stable and all. Just when the economy tanked my job was about the most stable position in the company (since we needed to win more work).

I started college to be a Civil Engineer but changed in my senior year to go to construction management. Lost 60 credit hours in the process. Actually switched to Environmental Design so that I could finish a semester early because I was tired of school.

 

Heres a couple pictures of our D-9 ripping rock to get to subgrade on a highway job were working on right now. Took them with my phone so there not great.

 

I work for a GC as a project manager. Currently working on a raw water main and carbon/transformer facility project. Also a few medical office renovation projects that are finishing up in the next few weeks.

I'm an architect, currently working on a $300 Million CAD hospital research facility in downtown Toronto, our office tends to lean more towards culturally significant venues, Toronto's new Opera House, performing arts centres in DC, Detroit, and a few over seas...

 

Do you know of Orbi Steel?

 

nope, are they local to the Toronto area?

 

I think Quebec. They came down here looking for work, but they do all of their fab work up there. Just doesn't make much sense to hire a steel erector / fab shop that has to ship stuff half way across the continent. They didn't seem to understand that concern.

 

any work for a Mexican architect??

 

I'm not in the field yet..... I'm in my last year of school though!!!! Majoring in construction technologies as well as manufacturing. Working for the Home Depot for now until i get out of school, I sell doors, windows and millwork. Its not bad but its hard to pay for school.

 

The LEED AP exam sure is a lot of fun. I'm going to opt into the new system when it rolls out, sure don't feel like taking that exam again!

I am a LEED AP too. Didn't think the test was all that bad if you just read the material.

 

I work with my dad part time who is a general contractor and owns his own business.
