On topic, I fully expect TB to slide back to 5th or 6th in the east. They were playing well over their heads even when Stamkos was healthy.

 

As of today:

In the West the 8th place team (Wild) have 30 pts in 22 games. That's 1.36 pts/game.
Projected over a full season they would need 112 points to remain in 8th place.

In the East the 8th/9th place team (NYR and Sens) have 20 pts in 21 games. That's .95 pts/game.
Projected over a full season they would need 78 points to remain in 8th/9th place.

 

AS OF TODAY LEAFS HAVE A WINNING RECORD AGAINST WEST TEAM WWWWWOOOOOTTTTTT

Projecting 2/3 of the season is BS anyway as I stated + your math formula is waaaaay off.

Must take the current 8th seed in each conference split their schedule into games against the E and W and project the games remaining by the average record against each conference posted by the 7th seed in the E and the 9th in the W from the past three seasons. Only then can one guestimate the post season cut off in each conference.
