^LMAO, that's pretty funny. I lost one of my mud flaps on the highway. my 1st gen didn't have these problems at all. XD, still love this one just as much.

Oh yeah, my TOB is making the typical 2nd gen noise too. gotta love it. lol

I drove a 2 gen a few days ago.. I love it, it feels great. Lots lots lots of more power, haha very noticeable - but I'm way to attached to mine!

Hhahaha, yeah I feel bad for throwing patrick under the bus like that (SORRY BUDDY!) but had to show an example, theres pro's & cons to both gens. Tell you one thing the 2nd gen onboard inverter is/was a life saver for me on a trail few months back, really came in handy

I personally feel if Toyota had made it possible to pack all the pros of the 2nd gen into the slightly smaller dimensions of the 1st gen, they'd have brewed the perfect truck. 2nd gen interior, minus the doo doo dash coating, and engine and such. Then again I do like the extra interior space 2nd gens add, as well as the extra rear space (though I have never ridden in the back).

Loved being able to drive my dads 04 DC for almost a year. Wanted a 1st gen myself but just couldn't find the optimal price/mileage/distance/4WD equiped/DC features all together for one. Loving my 2nd gen though! Bitch ass front flaps hitting speed bumps is stupid though. Never trimmed them up.

I've seen a 2nd gen 4x4 with no fender flares around town a couple times. It has either swapped fenders and bed sides with a 2wd Tacoma or had the fastener holes filled in and repainted by a body shop. It looks taller and narrower in a good way and makes it look a lot more like a logical evolution from the 1st gen truck. My list of things I want to do to my truck just grows by the minute.

My B.F.F. has a 2004 Tacoma with the same mileage as my 2005 (60,000), and he has had to get a new front wheel bearing and a new hand brake cable. His truck also has a dashboard rattle and makes a screaming noise through the vents when the wind blows across the cowl, like when he's on the freeway in a crosswind. Scared the shit outta me when we were in his truck on a trip last year and a gust of wind hit us. Anyone else have that issue? The driver's seat is sunken in and he is not even fat, only average sized. So far, my 2nd gen Tacoma is holding up better than his 1st gen (knock on wood). I still think the 1st gen trucks look better, though.

Meh, looks like your friend has just had typical problems arise that are hit or miss. Same types of issues happen to 2nd gens. We (2nd gen owners) have experienced whistles, rattles, some have had vibrations (not a single vibe to speak of on my truck). And to add trivial crap like front mudflaps being too damn long and stiff. I do feel 1st gens have a great look, especially from behind its like looking at one fine ass. Still love the front ends on the 12+ the best though:)

    While I respect your opinion....
I think this 1st gen vs 2nd gen debate is fu&king stupid. They are quite different. Why would you need to try and compare a truck that is substantially different. Its kind of an insecure swinging dick debate IMHO. The 4 runner is more bad ass than my first gen truck and I don't need to debate it amongst people. Its my opinion but I'm not going to go list all the reasons why I think everyone should agree with me because I don't care at all if anyone agrees. Anybody see where I'm coming from here? Not sure why we try to make others agree with us. I think second gens and first gens are both sweet.

    Loud as hell URD exhaust!
I've owned both and the 2nd gen is the winner when it comes to comfort and safety. It's nice to have the extra room when seating 4 adults and the safety features have kept me on the road on more than one occasion.

With that said I do miss my 1st gens, they were badass offroad machines and I got more compliments in them.

1st gen: IMHO better built, better looking, manual t case, smaller which is nice on trails

2nd gen: Bigger, way more power, way more comfortable, still good on trails.

I went with 2nd gen because of the added comfort and power. I much prefer first gen as far as looks go. I'm 6"3 245lbs, so I guess i prefer the 2nd gen.

I agree with all the rest of the posters in this thread that 1st gens should go to the crusher ( those that haven't rusted in half yet ) and 2nd gens rule

Why do you feel the need to say this? Were you that butt hurt over a first gen? Did a 1st gen break your heart? Did a hot chick with a 1st gen leave you?
