Oh yea I forgot. 2nd gens are immune to frame rust. Perfect anti rusting frame.

Lets have a civil war and split the site into two. 1st Gen TW and and a different site called 2nd Gen Tacoma world. Because having the two options within the same site still causes too much butt hurt within.

^ Hope the mods can catch my sarcasm. Why can't we all be nice and appreciate that we don't drive Kias

Time to take a step back and make sense of what some of us are saying... Both Gen's 1 & 2 are great trucks. Gen 1 was a land mark vehicle for small trucks of it's time & bottom line; there would be no 2nd Gen w/o Gen 1.

The statement above would be like saying all 1st Gen Camaro's should be sent to the crusher because the ride and comfort of the 3rd Gen Camaro is so much better. Come on guy...open up brain cell 2. This makes absolutely no sense at all!

I had an 02 double cab for ~8 months and just didnt like it compared to my buddies 05(which is what i wanted, but got the 02 for 6k, so couldnt pass it up). The interior looked too similar to my 85 i had as a kid, and that wasnt a good thing in my mind. It was doggy on aceleration, bed seemed very small with the short bedsides and it just wasnt as comfortable as i would like. Maybe it was the fact i was use to a dodge 2500 diesel with almost 700hp as a daily drive before i got the yota, but it just didnt do it for me. Sold it and finally picked up a 09 DCSB which i like a lot more. For anyone complaining about how BIG it is, you must have driven a hatchback previous?? I mean seriously, i can park this truck anywhere i want. Its still a small truck with a good turning radius.

I would take the 2nd gen over a 1st gen any day, except for maybe if i wanted another strict wheeling rig(but i couldnt see beating up a truck less then 10years old so that probably plays into that choice). I think toyota definitly made an improvement with the newer tacomas.

had 2 1st gens a 96 and a 2004 now i have a 2013. I love them all. driving a toyota for most of us is a lifestyle not just about having a vehicle from point a to point b. i beat the shit out of both my 96 and 2004 and i plan on beating the shit out of my 2013 as soon as i get the hell out of germany. my 96 had 400,000 miles on the body and 90,000 miles on a rebuilt v-6 when i got rid of it. the 2004 had 32,000 miles on it when i traded it in for the 2013. All three of them access cab 4x4 and manual. I dont know what the future holds for these trucks but as long as I can get a hold of a 1st gen or 2nd gen I will always own a Tacoma.

I agree , 1st Gens that haven't rusted out should get the Logan's Run treatment

Naw , I'm just glad we agree that the obsolete 1st gens should be retired at the crusher , the metal can be recycled into real trucks like the 2nd gen
