I just took my 2013 DCSB W/ less than 4,500 miles in with the same issue. I got the same answer you had gotten as well. Seems like it's just something we'll have to embrace!

OP, your saying it starts to vibrate as the 1-2 shift is happening & continues in 2nd gear? Only under "hard" acceleration?

All these trucks that shudder and vibrate may be why the Frontier rated better than the Tacoma in reliability this year according to Consumer reports. I don't know of any other problem with the Tacoma's.

Sorry I missed this question. To clarify, the vibration doesn't have anything to do with the 1-2 shift - that was just the best way I could think of to describe the approximate time that it happens. Saying it happens between approx. 15-25 mph is probably more accurate.

I also wouldn't say that it requires "hard" acceleration, but that is subjective. I would say it happens during "normal" acceleration. In order for me to make it not vibrate, I have to accelerate much more slowly than what I would consider normal.

Just as an update to where I am with Toyota on this: After several weeks and a couple of follow up calls, they finally sent me the paperwork for the arbitration process yesterday. I filled it all out and sent it in today. We will see where it goes from here.

One of the main questions I will have for the arbitrator is this: If Toyota considers this a "normal characteristic of the vehicle", then why have they issued multiple TSBs attempting to fix it?

I've got the same problem with my 13 4dr tacoma. bought brand new and even traded in my old 04 tacoma for a new one thinking i would have no problems, well... shakes like a bitch. toyota said blah blah we know there is a problem and its under investigation. but as of right now its a "normal characteristic of the vehicle" so wtf?? i dont get why they issued tsb's to fix it, figured out they couldnt so made the " patch fixes" obsolete? there has to be something other then just hoping for a fix soon, i love my new truck but i know its messed up. i asked the tech about a one piece driveshaft and he told me that if that would be better then it would have one on there... and ive heard some folks online say it didnt fix it at all. so whats actually the problem, axle wrap? carrier bearing? or is it a transmission issue?

"so whats actually the problem, axle wrap? carrier bearing? or is it a transmission issue?"

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

there are many threads on this...the problem is a combination of axle wrap and carrier bearing flex, both can be fixed on the cheap (less than $100)...so, to fix it you get one of these...

    Autocraft Under Leaf Help Spring

    http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/we...autocraft_10053624-p?searchTerm=spring+helper

then, to get rid of the carrier bearing flex (thus causes vibrations too), take the carrier bearing out, inject silicon into the three holes, not too much, but enough to fill to the top of each hole and have a little spread all around inside each hole, let it cure for two days, reinstall..

third, make sure to lube the splines on the slip yoke regularly, should be a zerk to inject grease, look for it...

I had three problems that the fix solved, the shudder and rear end pull to one side on normal to hard acceleration, the vibrations at speed, and the clunk with every stop and start, I lived with it for three years before I found the fixes here at the forums, applied them and have been one happy camper ever since...Toyota could do this fix and send a whole lot of people home happy, and for a whole lot cheaper than any TSB they may have tried over the years to correct this problem...

I can flat out guarantee your vibes will completely disappear, I did all three to my older Prerunner with absolutely perfect results, and I have put over 20,000 smooth as glass miles since the 'cheapo fix'...BTW, my Prerunner is sporting 241,000 miles, drives like a new truck, actually, better...

Phuck Toyota and their poor design, they haven't fixed it in all these years...just sayin'..

I will post up a picture or three tomorrow, it is dark and cold right now...

There should be a HUGE STICKY on this so everyone can solve their vibration problems related to the drive line and rear suspension..there are just too many of these threads, the answers are buried if you search, it would be a whole lot easier if it was a sticky...

count me as having the vibration. one tech said wow that is pretty bad. The " master tech" called it a slight vibration, but he knew how to drive it so it wouldnt happen. Normal throttle about half way through the gear then very easy on the second half. Clutch in very easy (think driving tractor trailer shift action) then repeat. Very unnatural way to drive.

The silicone fix I read about somewhere, I had used the same fix to help with collapsing upper motor mounts on front wheel drive 4 bangers that I built for road racing, decided WTF fuck and just went with it...

Like I said, search and you will find everything here at the forums, it is how I found out...let your fingers do the work....

Maybe I should do a writeup, but only if it is a sticky, I don't want it buried to be re-explained over and over again...

does anybody have any idea when toyota might have a fix for this? I keep on hearing "they are working on a fix". Last time I heard that was at the ford dealership when they were trying to fix the ecoboost shudder, and to this day I read that people are still having trouble with it.

The Tacoma is going to be due for a major redesign soon - don't expect a fix for Tacomas that are sitting on pavement right now.

I've had three 2nd gens, they all had a little vibe, but nothing that was alarming to me. A minor annoyance, but knowing that it's just something these trucks do actually makes me feel better. I was worried it was going to cause extra strain on the truck down the road, but it appears that it won't.

You have to look at it from Toyota's perspective. Is this an issue that could potentially cost them money down the road with warranty repairs? No, at least it doesn't appear to be. Does this issue pose a safety concern for drivers? No, at least it doesn't appear to. I can't say I blame Toyota for not investing more time and money into the issue.

I guess I got lucky,my 13 dbl cab,TRD doesn't vibrate hardly at all.Yes,there is some :lite" vib's if I mash it hard{not often}.I have often wondered,if a person could get a driveshaft balancer, like they have for semi's:don't know if they make one small enough. There's surely got to be someone here in taco world that could "fix"our problem.

    I know there's a TSB for the 2007-2012 FJ's rear propeller shaft clunk/noise (T-SB-0046-12) and another for the 2010-2012 4Runners (T-SB-0040-12).

I'll see if I can find the TSB to which you are referring.

No luck finding anything relating to the Tacoma's propeller shaft, just the standard T-SB-0249-12.

Just got the call from the company that schedules the litigator, asking if I wanted to do this in person, or with documentation only. It will be done in person, at the dealer where I bought the truck - the date is TBD.

I've already got all my documents ready to bring with me: Dealer work order, times / dates / names of all interactions with Toyota corporate and the dealer, the applicable TSBs, etc.

I'm told that after the appointment at the dealership, the litigator then has 10 days to respond back with his / her findings.

I'll post an update here after the initial appointment.

I'm still looking forward to hearing Toyota explain how they've had two different TSBs issued and obsoleted, covering 9 years of trucks, for something that they now call a "characteristic of the vehicle."

Sub'd. Same issue with my 2012 here. I opened a case with Toyota Corporate and they did nothing. I never tried arbitration but depending on the outcome of your case I will start that process. I bought the truck new and its unacceptable that Toyota isn't doing anything. I worry about the long term affects it might have on drive line components.

anytime there is a vibration, it is wearing out something faster than normal wear and tear would...
