They probably are not going to do anything. Still really no competition.

I'm not going to buy a Colorado or anything else GM makes. I still remember the 1980s and the GM failures from that era. GM has lost my trust forever.

Admittedly I am very curious to see how these trucks pan out as far as what they look like in person and early impressions of quality and reliability. The rumor I have seen in the press is that 2016 will bring a turbodiesel option.

While GM is definitely not known for their quality, the frame rust issue that is starting to come into focus on the early 2G Tacomas is making me slightly weary as a 2013 owner. I am very curious to see how Toyota handles the issue. I think that could be a turning point for people in the Northeast at least who are affected but don't desire a full size truck.

I'm sure I'm going to get picked apart for saying this but I think that the double cab Colorado in that reveal is a good looking truck. It looks a little less awkward than the Tacoma DCSB.

I suppose we will see what the time brings.

A step above the old Colorado, it still doesn't match the styling of the 2nd gen tacoma. Colorado's have always been sized smaller in comparison to the tacoma. This looks no different.

Toyota has no choice but to come up with an answer. This new Colorado is such a game-changer that doing nothing could be dangerous for Toyota's Tacoma sales, which the company DOES covet.

I would look for some Tacoma improvements in the next couple years.

And don't forget the 90's. I had a 94 S10 that had it's engine replaced at 20 k miles and tranny at 45 k miles. A new generation of truck buyers will learn with a new generation of a GM truck. Unreliability and typical poor GM quality. I can see the rebates now.

Probably right. Another rash of buyers remorse threads in our future I suspect.

I think GM actually had "OK" trucks back in the 80's... Early 80's, that is.

1988 was the year that changed Chev/GM permanently, IMHO. The year they intro'd the new 1/2 ton.

It, and all the other GM vehicles, began a steady downward spiral of quality & reliability.

    I loved my '84 S-10 4x4 reg-cab short-box, except the vacuum-assisted 4x4. The rest of the truck was a tank...

Like SkiWaves8 said, all Toyota has to do is NOT CHANGE ANYTHING.

They have the compact truck market hemmed-in & locked-the-fuck-down...!

    :)

    Bone stock for now....
They'll react when market share loss warrants it, which will be much later rather than sooner, if at all.

From the pictures I have seen it does look better than a Nissan Frontier in my opinion so it has that going for it.

If it's priced right and obtains good fuel economy, I'm sure Toyota will see a loss in sales here.

Don't get me wrong, the Tacoma is a really good truck, damn this thing is a dinosaur. Even though it is an old design it still retains good sale volume and retains its value extremely well. Part of that being Toyota hasn't change much of anything on it since 2005.

One of the things that hurt the Colorado when it was first introduced was due to the competition it was built for. GM went after the first generation tacos. Little did they know Nissan and Toyota were bringing a mid-size truck to the market to compete in the compact segment. Of course they had their problems (I do not know what they are nor do I care) but needless to say they were out gunned from the get go.

I believe GM is on the right track with this truck. They pulled the Colorado of the shelf and really researched what the consumers want in this segment. They have introduced a truck that has risen the bar in the mid size category.
Toyota will have no choice but to take note as I believe this will be a pretty good seller. Heck, for the past five+ years there was really only two options out there. The Ranger was dead in the water and the GM's didn't really have a chance to shine.

So what's Toyota's move? I couldn't tell you anymore. I HOPE they make an impressive response to the colorado, but knowing Toyota they will sit back and wait four more years... much like the Tundra.
