Gun holster write up-No drilling!!

Alright, so everyone knows making long drives with your carry gun on your hip isnt exactly comfortable. For almost a month I've been looking into what kind of holster I wanted in my truck cause simply putting it in the console isnt secure enough. Now understand, im not talking bad about any of the ways others have mounted their guns, but this works for me!
Ok, so right off the bat I decided i didnt really want to drill holes anywhere for the mount, nor did I like the under the steering wheel holster. So besides a console vault or the seat cover pockets, I didnt see very much out there. So I set out to make my own.
Heres the finished product.

The holster i bought was a LH drop holster for a 9MM. It has industrial strength velcro on the right hand side of it and attaches to the carpet in our trucks like it was meant to be. I was initially worried about the velcro moving and falling off when I went to draw the gun or the extra magazine on the front, but the strength of the velcro and the tension the straps make it solid. Although im right handed I used a LH holster because its going against the LH of the transsmission/console hump.
So heres the holster outside the truck just to see it
Ok here we go. First I removed the cup holder under the stereo by just pulling up at the forward side of it.

Then I took the strap that is meant to go up your thigh and attach by velcro around a belt and slid it in between the console panel and the carpet. Once inside the console compartment, I routed the strap (which is elastic), from left to right and underneath this line and then back over to the left side of the compartment.


Keep in mind that because of the two support poles on the bottom side of the cup holder, the strap has to be towards the forward side of the compartment or it wont seat fully.

Then I did the same thing with the strap that is meant to go around your leg. Routed it underneath the console panel, around the line for tension, and back out to clip onto the holster.
Then I simply placed the cup holder back down into the console and gave a solid push down, it snapped into place, and I was done.



The holster has a thumb strap with a snap on it, but obviously its your preference whether or not you keep that on. One of the nice things about this is depending on where you usually keep your seat, the angle in which you want the holster, is all up to you. This took all of 15 minutes and required no tools whatsoever!! Hope I was able to help someone else having this dillema!!

 

I was thinking of doing something similar but I didn't want to spend the money on a thigh rig (or another holster in general) but I had an old Side Armor IWB for my 32c that I broke the belt loop tab on so I took it and some "industrial strength" Velcro and poof! I like that I can just peal it off the Velcro and throw it in the console to keep prying eyes thinking I have a gun in the car.

My Kimber fits in there nicely as does my 32c and since they are the only two I carry besides my sw640 its about as good as it gets. Its in a nice position to be able to grab without leaning forward, its right next to my hand plus my light is there as well.

The one thing I wonder about is if I were to get pulled over, especially by WSP seeing as they come to the passenger window as to be safely away from traffic, if it would cause any issues for me since it is right out there. I have never been hassled for anything by them and I have given them plenty of reason with the speeds I've been clocked at lol, and anytime I have been pulled over I just hand my CWP over with my license and keep my hands on the wheel at all times and never even a second look, just an "Ok sir if you could just do me a favor and keep your hand in plain sight when I come back."

I don't think It would cause issues, as most cops I have met and the few I know are gun guys afterall, I just don't open carry or anything cause I just don't really like the attention. I also don't want to make the move to put it in the console cause I have had two cops at my door before I have had a chance to turn my car off cause they were just stopping me to say, "Hey your brake light is out" and then leave so I would hate for one to think I may be drawing on them.

 

Adam, Is it still easy enough to get a good grip on it with it being that close to the trans hump? I do like how secure yours is cause on a hot day the adhesive on the Velcro may decide to peel away on mine. I have considered making a bracket that mounts to the two visible holes on the holster and double stick taping it to the bottom of the cubby if that proves to be the case.

 

Cool idea, but I wouldn't want to give WSP any reason to draw on me. Looking down the end of a barrel is no fun! They seem nervous enough when I've been pulled over until I hand them my CWP.

Yeah its tough... Its a great spot but If I was a stater, or a cop of any kind, I would be overly cautious. I realized after I posted that its not all that hard to slip it in the center console as I was pulling over. Not the most difficult of solutions.

 

Yea its pretty easy to take the gun out. Especially since i took off the thumb drive. Because i used a 9MM holster, the fit is snug enough for me to feel comfortable with my gun fully seated.
