I have considered a Fit & have done some research on line. I have been under the impression that the real world milage wasn't as good a Civic. I don't know anyone that actually owns a fit. I was surprised at the usable space inside.

The new Corolla claims 40mpg on the highway - worth looking into.

It may be that the majority of people opt for the auto, which i think is a piece of poo CVT. We have fleet cars at my work that are CVTs, fuel economy isnt very good in city driving. My wifes is a manual, which i think is a must for such a light car and small engine. The mpgs i mentioned above are real world in warm weather, winter time nets about 30-34 mpg with mixed driving.

I just traded my 2010 Jetta TDI on my Tacoma. I really liked the VW, and the mileage was insanely good, but at 38K (just out of warranty) I had a CEL. Dealer tried to get me to pay nearly a grand for some sensor. I told him BS call VW and tell them to fix it. Then miraculously the dealership "rerouted a wire" and reset the connection and sent me on my way, no charge. There had been 2 other CEL/sensor issues fixed earlier, under warranty, too.

2000 miles later the stock radio completely died. DOA. $1750 for a new one. It's not even the nab unit. BS.

A few days later more haywire electrical stuff. Every light on the dash lit up and flashing. I had it. Traded it in on a Tacoma. I'll double my fuel bill and still probably come out ahead since I won't be fixing the VW every few months. Plus no more worries about the aforementioned fuel pump issue that was always in the back of my mind.

Fun cars to drive, but beware.

I sorta like them, but everyone I know with them complains about how they start to nickel and dime you even early on. I've also heard about problems with the turbo and something about bad fuel tanks.
I would say try looking at a Honda Civic or Accord. Reliable cars, relatively comfy, and good MPG.

I've been keeping an eye on that... I would think I would be more reliable than a VW from the stories I've heard about the TDI.
