Can you share where you got the dash piece from? Or did you build that yourself?

    Thanks!

Can you link me the one you bought on eBay? I looked on Amazon and neither the Scoche nor the Metra look like the OP's. They're close but not exact.

    Thanks!

You are right. Its a double din deck kit but the bezel is a little different than OP's. He has one with that beveled inner lip. The one I got is slightly different. Once I get it I will have to experiment. I'll post later. Metra95-8214TB

Ok, I have had a lot of interest in making some of these to sell as a kit. What do you think of this pricing if I was to do it..

Dash kit w/o Sony head unit: $400

It's about 10 hours of labor on my part so I figure at roughly $30 an hour plus the cost of parts that's a pretty fair number...what do you all think??

I could also include the head unit with the kit but the cost of that varies, anywhere from $100-$140 depending on the day. I just ordered mine off eBay and it was $130. Personally I'd prefer just letting the buyer worry about the head unit and I'd just do the dash piece.

Anyway let me know what you all think!

can you do it for a full size iPad? I'm not a fan of the full size in the tacoma dash that soundmanaudio did.

Wow, so you actually cut quite a bit out of there. Maybe this would work even better for my Nexus 7 since it's smaller than the iPad mini, it may not require as much cutting. I pretty much destroyed my stock dash piece and put it back together with fiberglass and bondo, but I couldn't get the inside corners smooth and my edges aren't very straight so it doesn't look nearly as good as yours does. Unfortunately $400 is a little steep for my budget so this is going to have to be a DIY for me.

I know you want to make and sell some of these, but I hope you don't mind maybe sharing a few tips? If not, I totally understand.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

There is a interface built specifically to bypass using a deck and is a lot smaller and easier to hide plus will have lower levels of distortion. While this looks like it will work, this will double the heat within that space.

I was actually thinking about that heat.... my deck runs hot as is and my current IPAD runs a bit warm... not too sure about the mini's tho...

You could always wire a 12v computer fan in there! I'm actually following a thread on another forum where a guy replaced everything with a Nexus 7 using an interface like you're talking about and wired a 12v computer fan to it. He even has steering wheel controls working.
