Are you making/designing your own? I don't know of anyone that makes shackle hangers for us other than the flip kits.

Well and the ones I am going with but I don't know that those would work for you guys.

if the standards sit too tall for you, you can get the extended defined engineering shackle, but otherwise the stock one should suit you fine. your leaf springs will be the travel limiter in a setup like that.

    Wrenski?

yeah, i'll just make my own most likely. probably sit it up higher than the one pictured though. i'm feeling stock(ish) dimensions for the hanger, and a longer shackle, with 3ish inch lift springs. 3 inch springs and a longer shackle will still keep me nice and low.

a shock hoop, good leaf pack, and longer shocks will get you about all of the travel you can achieve from a "bolt-on" standpoint. without starting to change spring mounting points. and fabricate a little more, you'll be pretty much restricted to the above flex picture

The 12's should handle that extra droop though.

n0rth is running the exact setup I listed, only with the BAMF relocation shock kit and timbrens instead of bumps cans (which is probably a better choice for Kase since he just crawls and it is less money).

Here is the link to his thread with some pics of his Dakars with the flip. He hasn't put up any pics with the Expos yet.

    Those are 36's.

Exactly, the BAMF tower is lower than the Pelfrey Hoops, But a longer rod end could easily make up an inch or two of droop.

I'm not trying to argue, just stating my opinion :proposetoast::

I was just about to say that. haha I'll bet your shock hoops compensate for the extra up travel of SUA. I don't know just how low the BAMF's and Pelfrey's but from what I understand it seems to be enough to cover the extra droop.

Yep, we tucked up as high as we could without cutting into the bed. If i could go back in time i would do 16's and the DMZ kit with a super simple bed cage

I've got the identical 1st gen ATO kit. Picked up the same shackles a few weeks ago from quadratec. Just need to get a set of Dakar's & I'll have the same setup.
There's a pic of the shackles in my build thread. ;)

I was at his house the weekend before the barnwell trip doing some work in his driveway. one of the first things he said when he looks at my truck was that he was angry about how I got the same flex as he did. unless you go past what's acceptable in the negative arch department, a flip kit isn't going to do much for travel. the benefits to it are:

-it changes what is about a 50/50 split of up/down travel to go toward more drop and less compression (gotta set up your bumps right though so you don't damage of snap a spring). a little negative arch is fine, but with a stock bump stop height, you're going way too far for the springs
-you get slightly better clearance with the shackle hangers. I toss this out the window as far as benefits are concerned though. look under my truck next time. everything under there is all banged up and scratched to hell, but the shackle hangers are pristine. not a single scratch/scuff/dent.

    Dead on about the bumps.

My hangers were pretty tore up though.

Also with my CBI rear the hangers looked like shit. ;)

i'm building a bed cage for mine. i'm going to make sure I have more shock travel than I need, which then leaves me completely free to play around with the springs and spring mounts all I want to get both the most travel I can, as well as the desired ratios.

my hangers are 100% shot. I've bent them to the point that i can't just bolt on the defined engineering extended shackles right now, because they would hit my frame

hangers look like this / \ instead of this | |

I am waiting for my DMZ kit to ship out:woot: I am going with some simple shock hoops for now with some cross bracing. I'm hoping to retain my toolbox for now.
Really? My shackle hangers are pretty mangled from rocks... I'm not even sure they are straight anymore. And like Craig said, they look pretty bad with the high clearance rear.

I would not say that as a blanket statement Kase. I can tell you with my current setup using a stock 3leaf pack & a wheelers 3 leaf AAL I get a substantial amount of add flex over stock.
The flip kit changes the geometry of the rear and allows additional droop.
Kevin got it right with this flip hanger.
But Colin is correct in saying it is not the only way to go. ;)

they can be, i'm just not a fan of the ones that bolt into the stock location.

if you're going to do a flip, i would recommend building your own. locate the upper shackle point higher up, and run a longer shackle. you will also have to locate the hanger mount farther forward for this. the reason you don't see a lot of this is because you will get side to side flex that will put the shackle into the frame. Mike had issues with this years ago with the earlier versions of his rear setup. the solution is to dovetail your frame inwards even farther, from the shackle mount back.

    yep.

it's not the best "bolt on" mod... shackle flip = leaf springs become wear items.
