I have a 2013 DCSB TRD 4X4 and my driving is split pretty evenly between interstate and city. I average between 20.0 and 20.5 every tank.

Wow, apples and oranges. A Reg Cab Tacoma vs. a Rav4. Just what were your expectations? I can say one thing, you don't have wicked torque steering issues with the Taco when you pull out to pass. There's so much difference between the two platforms and what they were designed for, I can't even begin to see a comparison. My wife's V-6 Rav gets much better mileage than my Taco and I have zero hope in a drag race with her. But, her Rav isn't going to haul a ton of bricks with a boat attached to the back. Nor is it going down the same trails that the Taco is (although the Rav has done some amazing things - you gotta know my wife). My Taco has better seats, but the Rav has better sight lines. Taco is better behaved when you stomp the gas, while you had better be holding on with both hands due to torque steer with the Rav. Simply put, it is unfair to compare the two vehicles.

Built for maximum low end torque, tooter II.VII intake manifold spacer, LCE long tube header, Injen long tube intake, 2,900 rpm torque peak.

Is your truck similar to this model?

If it is, then you have the smallest engine in the largest truck. I also have the 2.7, except it's in the smallest truck. Also, do you have an auto or a manual transmission? If you have an auto, that makes it even slower. As the engine breaks in it will run better and you'll get better mileage. Also have you checked the air pressure in your tires? If you haven't, I'll bet they're low. Pump them up to 40 psi. That will definitely improve your trucks mileage and also make it perform a little better.

The 2.7 is a slow turning "industrial" engine that has decent low end pull, but there's nothing over 3,800 rpm so revving the engine will get you nowhere. Ease off a little on the throttle and the engine shift sooner as it will actually accelerate faster if it's not all wound out. That's because it has more low rpm torque than high rpm horsepower.

I only buy underpowered base model vehicles with small engines and manual transmissions because I like the economy, and they're still fun to drive within their limitations.

If it's totally unacceptable, you could always take a hit and trade it in for a 6, or just get used to it. Other than it being slow, it's still a really good, practical, reliable, nice looking truck that will take you wherever you want to go. :)

His profile specs say double cab auto 4cyl.

Like your saying...biggest Tacoma config with the smaller engine...not sure what anyone should expect.

When mine was stock v6/auto/4x4 with the little dunflop 245/75/16's I was averaging close to 22mpg. Now with aftermarket wheels and 265/70/16's I'm getting just about 20. But it's a truck... I actually had an 05 4cyl 4x4 with a 5 speed that I put 102k miles on. I regularly got 22-24 mpg the entire time I owned it. Had my daughter not outgrown it I would still have it. It certainly wasn't very quick though. If you had a V6 RAV4 before I can see where you would think it's lacking. I test drove one of those before we bought my wife a Venza and I couldn't believe how quick it was. I certainly wouldn't want to work on it though. That engine was packed in there tight.

14 DCSB TRD OR I'm getting 19.8 mpg, but only driven 3500 miles so far. I have used ONLY ethanol free gas except for one tank when I was low and couldn't find a station selling it.

Driving pretty conservatively. They're supposed to get better as they break in.

    And the app calculated 8.3?

It simply multiplied 13.42 by 0.62
That'll convert KM to miles, but not L/100km to M/G.

I just did 2200 miles over two weekends and avg 21.3 mpg. I was doing 72 mph on cruise with some occasional 80mph sections.

No, first vehicle I did not drive before buying but my oldest son went missing from Boston the week the vehicle was ordered. I only went in to sign for the Tacoma so they could finish the prep and accessories. My wife drove it to the house because she was not covered on the company car insurance. I loaded it up and headed out from Oklahoma going to Canada to look for my son the first time I drove it and noticed the lack of power but too late to go back that day.

It seems like there is a big gap in what mpg is for these comments with heavy footers getting good and people like me with a light foot getting bad. I expect to get over 20 mpg if the rating is highway 24. The Rav 4 I drive has 25K on it rated at 31 and I get combined over 30 mpg. Seems to me that Toyota has a problem but all I get at the dealer is excuses. Not broken in, not driving the average speed, take off the grill guard (which I did). But if the 6 cylinder really gets within 1 to 2 mpg within the 4 cylinder I would rather have the power.

2013 V6 4x4 Mileage. Granted this tank was rarely above 45 MPH but I usually average 21-22 MPG range. If I can stay out of the city I can get 24 all day long.
