not to ruin your idea here, but part of the strength of racks that extend over the cab is that they have a single steel tube running down each side, so it is resting the weight over the cab on the vertical members just behind the cab. your design here has the front section pulling hard on the vertical bars without what would otherwise be a counterbalance over the rest of the bed. why not just get the rack the same height all the way across, and have the tent up a bit higher?

I didn't want to re-draw the rear section lol but I was thinking about that ;) especially given the CVT tent needs more space. I have a few different designs in idea
    Thanks.

Jonnie boy, look through my gallary at my rack before I added my tent addition. Should give you an idea what needs to be done.

The non tent rack was about 2 sticks of tube and time. Prolly $75 or less in gas, wire and pipe. Lol

18 degrees this morning!!! Yet you can still drive to 7000 plus feet and there is no snow down here. Wth!

Question. I have a synthetic winch line I want to install. How do I get it secured to my winch? My current steel line has a swaged fitting attached with a screw that looks like a #2 terminal lug on it then wrapped many times. What do you do for a synthetic lime? I understand the wrap holds the line. But what's a good way to start the line to keep a good wrap. I have pics if needed. It's a cheap smithy built winch.

I always thought you just used the same bolt/screw that you did for the steel line

I can't find anything in Google about a good way to start the first round of wraps without a swaged fitting in the end.

The end of my current steel line is just a tiny 10-32 screw through a terminal lug that can't handle any load.

Its friction that holds the load. You're never suppose to go all the way down your winch line for that reason.

Think of a tension less knot

I understand but what's said trick to starting the wrap to make it the tightest?

You really think the screw won't hold it tight enough?

I need to secure the rope enough to get a tight wrap around the wheel at least twice (two layers) before I put a real load on if. How do you secure the rope without anything holding it down for those first two wraps. Yes I'm stupid.

Can you crimp a ring lug to the end of the synthetic and bolt it down?

Tried with little joy. It could hold maybe 20lbs of force with a 6 gauge crimp. I'll post pics
