If you want i can clean up your model in rhino which can be used to see the final product very nicely i am looking to design a set of bumpers for my own but haven't gotten around to finding the mounting locations

I appreciate the offer but I'm cleaning the drawings up now. I have rhino, and use it to prep the files for the CNC machine.

As for finding the mounting points it takes about 15 min to take the rear bumper off, maybe an hour to mock up mounting brackets from cardboard or plywood. These brackets are designed specifically for this bumper set up. For better fitment I use a drill press to get the holes exactly where they need to be, so the holes aren't in the drawing.

    Edit: hope you understand

Haha not a dumb question! I have a jig that I make that has the holes and then you put that on the piece and drill through the holes into the actual bracket. Works like charm!

I clamp it to the frame with like 5 vise grips... And mark it :anonymous:

A punch with tape on it to center it in the hole. Works pretty good!

I honestly don't do any of that. I measure my mounting points enter the dimensions in sketch up and go straight to cutting. I use a digital caliper also. If your worried about fitment just get it cut with the holes ovaled out similar to the factory set up.

Built this FJ bumper in 13 hours of labor. Everything from design to finish weld. It looks better with the flares on but the kid pulled em for some reason.

:O Damn that's sweet! I won't lie, I'm not as fast as I could be. Next bumper I mock up won't be cardboard or luan. It'll be metal, and I'll draw the pieces right into sketchup as I go. I'm just comfortable doing it this way for now. I did just order two 5x10 3/16 sheet and have a 4x8 3/16 in the bed of my truck right now. I'll have plenty of metal to fool around with. Also not having my own shop sometimes causes conflicts in schedule. My boss is super helpful and it's great he lets me use his space, but you can see why that poses problems from time to time.

anyway that FJ bumper is awesome! (I can definitely learn a thing or two from you!)

Early morning when I came back in it was raining. Not a huge deal. Until it started raining so steadily it flooded the entire shop. right now the shop is 60% water 1" or deeper. Needless to say welding is probably not the greatest idea... Ironically the only dry spot is the bathroom...

Spent a long time putting things that shouldn't get wet up high...

HAHAHA! I know right? Well working in the pond that was the shop wasn't the issue. It was keeping the water from damaging expensive equipment. Mission accomplished! Nothing was damaged, and my co-worker and myself managed to push all the water out.

ANYWAY!!! Finally got some stuff done...

Had to tweak a couple small things. But at this stage it fits perfectly.
