So i got my 01-04 center console from a member on here. Didnt have the cup tabs, so i ordered new ones from the dealer. (they cost $6 by the way...)

Anyway, theres a weird square hold in my cup holders.

    Oh awesome...

Has anyone modded anything to fit there? Perhaps a phone holder?

Someone put a female USB connection there and ran it to the back of their aftermarket stereo.

Front dome light added, light reminder added, door chime mod, added 2nd gen 4runner headrests, grey wire mod, 2lo mod, more later.
That square hole is for a power inside rear view mirror switch. Get yourself 2 coin holders out of a 2nd gen 4runner they will fit nicely with a small gap I did this to my 02 taco.

Mine has a little change holder filling that hole. I use it for holding the screws whenever I take the center dash console apart.

I'd really like to find a way to mount a phone bracket in there.

my old console had a rectangular slot (with the shitty square chinese take-out cupholders), and that fit my phone perfectly.

I'm interested to hear anyone elses mods

That little piece you're missing is completely useless.

Here's someone who added a USB charger in that spot.

I've seen others run their CB female port there, and another who put a switch there (for something I can't remember)

The first rule of square hole is you do NOT talk about square hole!

I like the 4Runner change holder idea, but mine already has a change holder in the main console interior (I thought it was stock? maybe not?) It'd be the perfect place to put the CB mike hookup - might pursue that one!

Also, it'll hold the cap to a whiskey bottle perfectly, which is handy...always losing those things...
