I like the butterfly the backstraps with a little salt and pepper blend and garlic/onion powder then 7 minutes each side on low in the grill. Let it rest for 5 minutes. Best deer you ever had

Try back straps with brown sugar, garlic, salt, and pepper run. Marinate a little. Then pop in the over wrapped in bacon for 350 in the oven. Towards the middle of time pour melted butter over it. I know sounds like a heart attack on a plate but super good. Get a few workouts in before and you will be good. Lol

I've always used an '06 for as long as I could remember other than using a 12ga slug gun. A few years a go I got a 300 win mag so I had an everything gun. Overkill for deer in PA but hey I like it. My next will be a 270 or a 7mm-08. I am running 165gr reloads through my '06 and 300 win. The 300 win will get your attention and on game I dont flinch but I try not to spend too much time target shooting with it since it will let you develop a very healthy flinch in no time without a lead sled. I think I want a lighter caliber just so I can enjoy target shooting with it a little more.

Go with the 270. By far my favorite deer rifle. Flat shooting not too much recoil and it puts em down. The rifle has also taken many prarie dogs and ground hogs a few antelope and muleys and even an elk. Some argue it is too small for elk but shot placement is key and it does just fine

I just picked up a new Savage Hunter XP in a 270 for a deer rifle. Most of my friends have either a 270 or 30-06 for deer in the areas that allow rifle.

You will like that Savage. I have a 114 American Hunter in 300 win and it is the most accurate rifle I own. I think you will be very very happy with that gun. Before I started reloading for my 300 win, it really like the inexpensive Remington corlokt

If I was to hunt elk I would be running my 300 win mag since it leaves me plenty of heavy premium bullet options.

All I had was my truck. Plus it was less than 1000 ft or yards from 2 schools. To top it off, less than a 100 ft/ yards off the road.

Positive is it is in my neighborhood.

Just put my first doe on the ground at last light after hunting all day for shooter bucks. Tomorrow will be my last day this year so I wanted to make sure I had some meat for the freezer. It was 25 degrees all day with a wind chill of 17. Bitter.

You obviously have more money than brains. It's just a doe. If it was a trophy buck then a body mount would be great. I'm not shelling out $2k for a body mount doe
