    Hi,

My cruise control stoped working a while ago, and today I decided to try get it fixed. I disassembled the steering wheel and tested the CC switch and wiring with a voltimeter. Everything looks good excepting one of the pins (there are three) of the CC connection on the spring cable which didn't have continuity.

I have not taken the spring cable out to look at the inside because I don't know how to do it yet and I don't think I have the tools to take the steering wheel out.

When the CC malfunction started, I could turn it on by turning the steering wheel to about 9 o'clock. The horn still works.

Any recommendations?? I searched for replacements of the spring cable and apparently it goes for over 250dlls. Too expensive for me. Are there any workarounds?? Can the spring cable be fixed?

    thanks!

I got mine fixed for free at the dealer. Did you get a letter to get yours fixed. They had a recall on it.

free recall and you have not had the accellarator pedal cut down and drive by wire reflashed. never have had either one done, they send me something about every 3 months. even got letter stating i could not make a claim against Toyota if i did not have it done.

I wasn't gonna get nothing done either, but my airbags lights came on. They "fixed" the gas pedal to even though when I brought my truck in the first time for the airbag light I told them not to and had to sign abunch of papers.

If you do try to fix it yourself, You should find a set of instructions so you can take the airbag the right way. Don't want it smacking your face.

thanks for your help everybody!!..The bad news is I kind of remember taking my truck to the dealership for the AirBag light problem before, so they probably got the recall fix already done on my truck, and that was at least a couple years ago. I don't think I'll be able to go back for a warranty on that.

I'm 99% sure it was the spring cable that they replaced. I'll call the dealership to make sure.

    thanks!

    I don't think the 2012s are affected^^

Could be wrong, but it's the early 2nd gen tacos that are the issue.

I was also informed today that this does not apply to tacomas with steering wheel audio controls
