Just downloaded the trial version of LR and tested some basic touch-up functions for this week's submission. Now I gotta decide between three pics and then I'll upload.

So far I really like it. I have this other program that came with my camera body and it has some pretty basic tools but it does have the tone curve assist tool. I still don't quite understand how that works other than just messing with it until I think it looks good. So I have to figure that out in LR, too, but I like the freedom of color and noise adjustment in LR.

And by the way, I normally use photobucket, but I saw that most of you guys had Flickr, so I thought I'd try that. Turns out, flickr has a higher resolution or quality or something than photobucket when you upload. You guys may have known that, but I didn't, so I thought I'd share.

    Cool shot!

And yes Flickr is much high quality. Plus you can upload directly from LR.

    Damn, that's a crazy trail!

Thanks! Yeah I noticed that. I like being able to check the photos in explorer first, though, so I'll probably stick to the standard uploader.

Bob and Marc both took the bypass there. haha I don't blame them though. Only 1 hour home for me. Several hours home for them both.

So is the camera actually level there? I feel like there must be some angle trick because that'd be a serious a**-puckering hill.

I had a 91 pickup that I totaled... I never remember being able to book a flight on a lightning bolt or hang gliding.. Must of been a 92 thing

That trail looks like it be a bit tough on tires..

    And

    Nice photo TJ

I am standing up on a ledge about 10 feet or so above the rig looking down at it. That is mostly level right, just leans to the passenger a little. I wasn't too thrilled to fall in that hole at first but it wasn't spooky per se to do it.

Great shot TJ! ..we may have to reconsider the whole judge not picking his own photo rule.. :D

^^ I just got Lr this week as well.. I was using Aperture prior to that which I loved for its pretty simple user interface and although Lr does have a steeper learning curve, I'm certain it's going to be Very Much worth the switch within a week or two of learning Lr.
…as far as the Tone Curve, it seems to function primarily for improved contrast.. most folks seem to just make a slight "S" curve with it to achieve this.. Aside from that, not sure what else its good for yet??

and this is a Good Shot! I like the backlit trees in particular..
What body do you shoot with & what ISO/aperture was this at?
...if you don't mind sharing of course... :)

Guess I should start re-using my Flickr account now that I have Lr in this case..

Yeah I basically just tweak the curve 'till the colors look pretty... :p Definitely got some learnin' to do!

Thanks! I shoot with a T2i. I have always just left the ISO on auto, so this one was at 400. For stars I have in the past just put the aperture on as wide as it'll go and use a remote for a long shutter speed, but it seemed to be exposing slightly too much for my taste here, so I increased the aperture to f/8.0. The other picture that I was thinking of submitting had f/5.6 and the headlights had a lot of glare, so I'm happy with how this turned out.
