Hey guys, just curious here. I think I may just go ahead and slap on the TRD s/c. I received a price of $7000 from the dealer, talked down to $6600 installed (plus GST of course). Now, it sounds to me that our American brothers are buying these for about $3900-4500 (I believe 4500 was installed). Is it really $2k to $2500 more for the option up here, or am I being taken? Should I just drive a few hours and get it installed in the states? What have you guys gotten for pricing and did you end up paying the Canadian premium? $4500 and its good as done, $6600 and it doesnt seem to make sense

Thats what I thought too...I could likely regear to 4.56 for 1/3 the price and take advantage of the n/a torque curve. Looking at the dyno'd s/c'd rigs really impressed me though...but not $7k impressed.

I have a hard time pulling the trigger at 4k and doing the install myself as is. Would it be nice to have? Hell yeah. But I don't need it.

I will have to see how this truck does in the mountains n/a. If its lethargic with the extra weight and what not I'll have to look at options. I would love a low pressure turbo custom installed. My volvo wagon has one and it seems to help quite a bit.

I got mine purchased and installed for $4500. $3500 for the S/C and 1K for installation. The SC is ok but only gives 3-5lbs of boost. Get the URD 2.85" under drive cheater pulley and bump that up to 7-9psi. It seriously wakes up the truck and you shouldnt have to do anything else. I have ran the piss out of mine for 50K miles with this set up and not an issue other than leaky rear axel.

Labor rates are typically higher in Canada. Many American dealers don't charge $120/hr.

He's getting shafted on parts too , blow me not so free trade agreement

    FU Toyota Canada

and even a $50/hr difference in labour rates would need a 40 hour job to make up that discrepency

You Americans and your damn purchasing power! I hope some Canadians chime in about getting a dealer in the US to install this. All I'm after is a good, linear increase in torque below 3000rpm. I can maybe get some good low end gains with shorty headers, cams, etc, but that will bring me up to that $4000 mark anyway. Bah, I dont know.

I actually dont mind paying a guy $120/hr. If I could buy the s/c for 3800, add 1200 for labour, add 5% gst... $5250....alright, I'd do that. $4500 and I'll do it tomorrow.

How close are you to the border? Get in touch with a US dealer and set up an install? Hell, even if you have to stay in a motel for a couple of nights, it'd be worth it to save $2000.

Not a problem when it's all Toyota parts installed by a Toyota dealer.

    Theoretically true

Seem to remember guys who had bought US trucks having warranty issues being discussed in the Canadian Regional section

I kinda remember those problems occuring. In fact, isnt it Toyota that gave their American dealers a cease and desist order in regards to selling vehicles to Canadians. It was cutting into the profits a little too much I guess. Even to this day I can buy the exact vehicle I want from the states, pay a company to import it for me, pay all the fees at the border, get the registration stuff done, and still be less than buying my truck here.

2014 Tacoma DoubleCab 4x4 6spd TRD Sport Premium:
    USA $33450
    Can $42160

I saw them both in person, I'm not sure where the $9000 was added. Actually, if I remember correctly, the Canadian version was missing some stuff.

Don't forget the $1500 freight, which is higher than what Hawaiian buyers pay.

Well, at least it's only GST for you, since the oil covers the PST.
