Made a deck for the inside of my access cab

I know that in the access cab there is really no way anyone could be comfortable riding back there and I need the space for my stuff. So I decided to build a deck in place of the seats.

First I removed the back seats, headrests, seatbelts and center console, thanks to the helpful threads on TW.



Next I filled the holes for the seatbelts with some white silicone because you can see to the ground through those holes. I can always remove the silicone if I have to ever put the seatbelts back in.



Next I bought some 5/8" thk. particle board for the deck.



Took my measurements and rechecked them three times before cutting. Here is the piece with the final cuts.



Test fit in the truck and measure length for legs.



Attached legs to deck with wood glue and screws. Then painted legs brown.



Bought my camo carpet at Walmart.



Starting to look good already...



Used spray adhesive to attach carpet to the particle board and trimming up the edges.



All done!



Now to put it in the truck.



Some of you are probably thinking well you are losing your storage bins under the seat. I planned for that as well and got some plastic storage bins to slide right under the deck to keep my tie down straps, jack, receiver hitch and other odds and ends in.



I think it came out really good and goes along with my camo theme inside the Tacoma....

 

Looks nice! I'm planning to do something along those lines eventually, but will go over the seats so I can still have them available on short notice if I need them. Good work!

I like the concept however why didn't you hinge the main deck to allow access to the under storage compartments????


Is there anyway to remove the understorage compartments for longer storage like High lift jacks inside the access cab???


Can you provide links for how-to remove the rear seats and headrest???

Nice work .. You should carpet the legs black to match the seat cover.

I did something similar a few months back. The seats just unbolt - there are three per seat.

The headrest removal is a little more complicated, you have to pull the whole back panel. It just snaps in place, so a few good yanks and it comes right out, but it's a total pain in the ass.

 

might be able to squash yourself in the back and sleep back there when hunting if its to cold for the truck bed!

Nice job. The "deck" is one of the reasons why I like the 05-08 AC's, flip the seat forward and you got a deck.

Made one similiar to this a while back myself. for my sub and amps, but more so the two labs could lay on it comfortably. You can flip it up in the back to get access to the storage too.

We have this great store called Ocean State Job Lot here which usually sells crap. they just happened to have 5'x3' rolls for 8 bucks. i figured why not. matched perfectly!

Unfortunately, i lost my plans with my last laptop, but as as general idea:
i used a 10" regular depth sub. The side behind the passenger seat holds it, in a .964 cubic ft sealed chamber. I left about 1.5 inches below the (down-firing) sub for the air to escape, which made the entire top to bottom dimension of the whole thing about 8-9 inches tall, if i remember correctly. i attached a better pic so you can see the chamber. Maybe that will give you a good idea, but as a rule of thumb, the chamber was as wide as i could possibly make it because i was trying to get the whole project as low as possible. It touches the back of armrest and goes all the way to the door sills.

All the above ideas are cleaner/better than mine. But mine is cheaper!

 

Finally got this done today so the pup will have a decent place to ride. I used tips from jpmorrisvb (Thanks! ) and used a piece of countertop for it's strength. It's also covered with Formica which should keep the platform dry with a wet dog. I added four layers of carpet pad underneath the carpet for long-trip comfort-



There is just enough room to lift the seats for bin access without having to pull it. This was definitely due to dumb luck and not the result of my brilliant pre-planning and design



I got this net from some previous vehicle (don't recall which). It's not perfect, but will work for now to help keep my dog from eating the windshield in a front crash. Also help keep him back there as he's been known to try to climb in the front while I'm driving. The bottom corners are secured to the platform so he can't go under it-

 

I made a real simple deck thanks to all the other threads and pics here on TW.

I don't have a dog but I have an aftermarket subwoofer and amp back there and it was really making it tough to carry anything. Even bringing groceries home was a pain.

I took the passenger side rear seat out to give me room for the sub box and still be able to move the front seat back so my friends don't bitch.
I kept the driver side seat in just in case I ever need to carry a passenger back there.

I used 3/4" plywood and 2x4's. The carpet is from Home Depot, 6x8 indoor/outdoor remnant for like $18. I used the 3M 77 spray adhesive and staples for the carpet.

Nice. Here is what I made for my 1st gen. It is a dedicated off road truck so nobody rides back there. Its all about storage for tools parts and recovery gear.

 

HBtaco02, where did you get those lids or doors.... do you have more pics?
