I did not. I have only owned it for a couple of years.

I figured it just had a little surface rust like most truck frames in Maine do and thought it was OK. At that point, I didn't want to put anything on the frame that would trap the rust and force it inward. If I had done something like that on my own would they be blaming me for the rusted out frame??

The lower body panels look like they just came off the showroom floor and I thought that would be the first sign of problems underneath.

I have Ziebarted frames on vehicles in the past but have no clue what the best product is now.

I WILL be doing something to this frame that will increase its lifespan while not voiding any warranty they plan to give me. I'll talk this over with the dealer.

I have not actually spent a lot of time researching what the best approach is to protect a frame lately. In the past, the one's I didn't undercoat, I just sprayed the undercarriage a couple of times a winter with water from the garden hose or at the carwash.

I have lived in Maine most of my life (I'm 57) and have never had a problem with a vehicle frame like this.

What's the consensus in here for the best frame anticorrosion program these days??

    Thanks.

I think if I had used something that would get rid of rust, there would be no frame left!!

After reading that thread, I do remember using a product back in the '80s on my '70 VW bug pan that was supposed to stop rust but can't recall the name.

I am assuming the frame they are putting under my truck will be new and I will not have to deal with existing rust when I treat it initially.

I have some research to do in the next couple of weeks. I want to have something protecting the frame before driving in the slurry they will be putting on the roads this winter.

    OP,

Glad to see that your frame was replaced. Which dealership was it? Emerson, Lee, Prime? I am also from Maine and was just curious.

If you are interested in undercoating, the Ziebart dealer down in Shrewsbury, MA is pretty good. I haven't tried the guy in Bath, ME so I can't speak to his shop. They did my frame for 500 new. Pricy, but as you know, worth it. I have had suspension work done on my 10 and haven't run into any warranty issues.

Here is a pic of the undercoated frame for all of you wondering.

Not trying to scare you but there have been a lot of guys including myself that are having serious rust issues on 05's and 06's. If you frame is still in good condition I would suggest doing something to protect it in the long run. There are a lot of threads going on about this but here is the most current one incase you haven't seen it.

this is a cool ending to the story.

i would have asked for some quiet time with the new frame and coated it with POR 15 myself.

you salty road guys have it rough!

How do they get to the topside and inside of the rails or do they at all? I figure I am going to have to do something when I replace my truck and might give this a consideration. Looks good

More people are getting screwed with rusty frames then people having them replaced for free. Toyota is not currently standing up behind their products at all. This is the rare good story - not the typical horror story where they try and get 8k out of you for a new frame.

My wife dropped off the truck at the dealership this morning since I didn't have to leave the house early.

    No charge to me.

The only thing they questioned was if they had to replace the cross-member that holds the hitch. If it was deemed unsafe, they would cover it, if not I pay for it.

What do you think, does it look unsafe??

It's one reason I took this picture.

When I took it in for them to take pictures and told them I wanted to tow my 19' Fleetwood Mallard camper, they said no problem -it's safe.

I have towed it twice since but only close by.

I will replace it even if I have to pay for it - after looking at it close yesterday this part will not go back on my truck.

A slew of pricey stuff my wife hates me for.
Yeah, that thing looks no bueno. You may be able to get a superior hitch made up cheaper than oem from a local fabricator if you have any around.

I wondered the same thing when I bought the package. They have this special wand that they insert into the frame openings and it sprays this stuff in all directions. Additionally, they drill the rocker panels and doors, spray the insides with the same tool, and cap the holes to keep the panels and doors from getting that rusty cancer and rotting them from the inside out.

    Mac,

Get the hitch done too... that is gone IMO. Looks like a ritz cracker would have more structural integrity than that guy.... holy crap!
