Lol! Mine was definitely in better shape than both of those...more like the former and not the latter. Thanks for the pictures!

The second pic, is a great pic, of water can do to gear lube. That differential, was in the mud/water for sure.

When i did my diff. with about the same miles as you, i had this chunk on the plug...
which i thought was huge at the time,
but compared to what you found i guess not?

No issues with my rig so far, but i've had mine since new, so
i know how the truck was treated...i'd have a look inside
of yours just for the peace of mind.

    Good luck with it.

That is pretty poor quality control for who ever is manufacturing the differentials.

That kind of crap should be cleaned out before assembly.

Mine also had a few pieces of shavings when I replaced the diff. fluid for the first time at 70k miles. I have had no issues with the truck before or after the fluid replacement. I think you should be okay to keep driving unless you start to have driving issues. I'm at 135k miles now. Good luck man

I've given it some thought, and I'm not going to all that trouble just for piece of mind. If it breaks, it's covered, and I'll deal with the inconvenience of being afoot for a few days. Thanks for the well wishes!

RIGHT! I'm glad this has happened to others it certainly makes me feel more comfortable about finding it in the drain plug.

Hopefully I get the same result as you!

THANKS everyone for your responses - TW has been very good to me the few months I've been a member!

That's because the posts were from four years ago and the guy that started the thread hasn't been on the site for six months you silly goose!

Those look big enough to be concerned about @gearcruncher
