I think dumping the mechanic would solve the problems.(15k on engine rebuild and new timing chain and now 'bent valves' and bad timing chain)

 

Not going to lie but I agree here. She sounds like a psycho who is too needy plus your truck is a truck not a person.

 

How did he "show you it was shut"? I still don't buy it. If it were not for the fact that he is going to fix it for free, I would run. I know a lot think run and go to another shop, and then sue the first for the cost of fixing it, but that can take a LONG time, and legal issues (May have an arbitration clause in that state, Warranty may only apply if claim is being made at that shop, etc.)

 

Well, I was the one who told her I didn't want to sell it for a similar reason. Then afterwards knowing the engine issue, that was when I made up my mind selling it once it gets fixed. I can never dump her, she stuck around when I was gone several times for the military. Now i'm going through the police hiring process and she's gonna probably gonna stick around another 6 months during my academy. Not many good girls out there. If a girl can go through all that, and keep it straight. I think she's a keeper. But, thanks for the opinion lol.

what exactly did he show you when the valve covers where off? the cams would be in whatever position they stopped at after the belt broke, some valves open, some closed...

I think you need to bird dog this mechanic from now on, every step of the way should be personally checked by you or someone that has a working knowledge of the Toyota non interference internals...
