noisy serpentine belt

anyone having a problem with their serp belt squeeling like hell when it rains or when its humid out. i only have 26,000 on my 06 and wondering how i can get it covered under warrenty. i know that they are gonna tell me that its normal wear and tear but i have had cars with over 100,000 on them and have never had one replaced. does anyone have any ideas?

 

I use to have an F-150 and the belt would squeel like a cat in heat. You might try some belt dressing. That should quiet it down for awhile. It could be a comp or alt bearing, but with 26k miles, I seriously doubt it

 

i already tried the dressing it only made it worse

 

Take it to the dealer and raise hell.....well, be nice at first and if they give you crap, then raise hell. This is not "normal wear" on an '06 w/26k miles

 

My belt chirps like little birdies at random times. TOYOTA dealer told me it is not covered and that Toyota corp recommends telling the customer to replace it with a GATES belt not a factory belt. Mine is perfect looking and dressing does not help. I will leave it until I need a new belt.

 

Boy mine did at 26,000 sounded like I had a blower installed. Took it in, they sprayed some crap on it, and it work for a day but came back. So the next day I took it back in and they replaced it.
I raised some he^# because I wanted it change the first time I went in, in any case "all fixed now".

 

my taco has and annoying whine when on interstate??? it is constant maybe the belt is my problem too???

 

hey thanks for the replies. i finally changed mine about 2 months ago with a Gates brand belt. it was weird though, it only did it when it was wet or humid out. the old belt didnt even look worn at all. it looked brand new

 

Related to this post so I guess I will ask. My truck had 66,000 on it when I bought it a little over a year ago its an 05. A couple months after I purchased it the belt started chirping like a bird. I tried some silicone spray on the pulleys and also some belt dressing but no real luck. So I replace the belt last May-08 and the noise was gone until last winter. It started again so I hit the pully's again with silicone spray and it went away until last weekend. So I took it to the dealer since I have an extened warrantee and figured it must be the idler pully or tensioner or something else worse. The dealer checked it all out and said it was all fine so they removed my belt and replaced it with a new one and noise was gone. Now they claim I had an aftermarket belt installed and I said thats impossible as I purhcased the belt from your dealership last May. I went home and got my receipt and even the box from the belt before I picked up the truck. They agreed the belt was a Toyota one and the removed the parts charge from my bill. It was still $190 for one hour of labor and their stupid $95 diagnostic fee though.

Anyway, I am worried there is something else wrong but they claim the pully's and tensioner were all fine and checked by more than one tech. The good part is since I paid the $190 they said to bring it right back if the noise comes back which I am guessing it will.

Anyone have any ideas on this? Do these belts just suck or do the trucks just like to burn through them? The dealer agreed with me that the belt they removed looked just fine as did the one I removed last summer...... Go figure.....

 

yes happens all the time in the winter.try using good old chalk.u have to do it while running so be very careful.u can tape it to something/stick/extention what ever.hold it on the flat part and let er go.it works every time.good luck

 

Yup...my 2004 would sing all winter long. It was actually embarrassing because it was a nice looking truck but sounded like a junker. It only did it on cold days - never above 35'F.

A friend checked the belt and told me it was fine. He deduced it to be the alternator bearings or something. I ran with it for 2 years like that.

Sold it on a warm day

 

With that many miles it's time to replace it.

 

man I have 137000kms on the original belt, I've changed idlers twice!!! the bearings were shot everytime once under warranty and once after.

 

Ordered a Gates for the truck. Saw it missing a few chunks.
