I'm thinking of selling my alpine and dash kit and gps to get an indash navigation system that can play dvds if i have the money some time. I want an alpine but they are $1,000+
can someone suggest a good unit for me to buy
Or a unit that plays dvd's but no navigation

You can find some good headunits for cheap out there. Over at a fleamarket by my house, they sell them for 350$ new still sealed in the box!

But IMHO, I would spend the extra $ and just get the one WITH the navigation. I kick myself everytime I have to use my crappy navigon. It's worth it!

It's a good buy! Trust me!

I like the screen better, bc we have HUGE radios, and when you take it out and replace it with a tiny little radio, IMHO I think it looks bad.
My screen looks like it belongs in my truck. Thats what I love about it, and after owning a screen, I'll never NOT own one....
Here's crappy cell phone pics of mine...

Because it was fun to needle you for not asking a question or making a statement that was of much content.

To avoid being a complete dick, I am a fan of the way Kenwood nav systems work, but do not like their menus. Pioneer makes an easy to navigate DVD players that work well, but I've never used their nav systems. I'd avoid off brands, even if the price seems right. I'd also only purchase from an authorized dealer due to warranty issues being much easier to deal with, rather than through a unauthorized dealer.

Do not go cheap on this. You will regret it. I made the mistake and shelled out $500 for a Jensen. The brand should have been the warning flag but I thought I would give it a shot. Biggest P.O.S.

i just got the eclipse avn4430. It has a tomtom GPS that clips into it and controls the unit. The tomtom can be taken out and used in a different vehicle. Also plays DVDs, bluetooth, ipod, etc. So far i'm really happy with it.

Suspension: Camburg Spindles, Bilstein 5100s, Deaver Leafs, BFGs Audio: IDQ 10 in "Marv" box - Hybrid Audio L6 mid bass/ L4 mids / L1 ProSE tweets - RF Power / Arc Amps...BitOne.1 to control it all.

I second that one, even if you go with a good brand. I have the Kenwood DNX-5120. Love the unit, but now that I've moved on to the rest of sound setup, I'm wishing I had alot of features that I didn't know I needed at the time I bought it. Time alignment, 6 channels out instead of 4, better EQ, etc.

If you intend on expanding the system later with amps, subs, etc, save up a few more bucks and do it right.

That said, I really do like my Kenwood, just wish I'd bought the flagship model.

If you were to go with a good quality head unit, would it be possible to have
satellite radio and nav both utilizing the factory satellite antenna?
    single or multiple disk ?
does the display have to rotate or flip down to insert disc? I hate when they do that.

I'm normally not into changing out the factory decks, but the toyota deck really sucks.

I believe the factory antenna is only for XM (won't work for Sirius or Navigation).

I just recently picked up the AVIC F700BT....waiting to get my Metra kit then install it....I am looking to add the HD Radio and avoid satellite.
