    Hello,

I’m getting ready to pull the trigger on a 2014 TRD but needto decide between the Off Road and Sport. I was pretty much ready to buy the Off Road because I like the idea thatthe upgrades seen a little more functional than the Sport. My local dealer in Epping NH has both modelsin stock so it was easy to do a side by side comparison. I was really surprised to see the Sport isclearly taller than the Off Road. I knowthe specs say they’re the same but the Sport is definitely a good inch and ahalf taller than the OR. Living in thesnowy state of NH the greater ground clearance is pretty desirable. I hate the road tires on the Sport and planeto upgrade the tires to something a little more aggressive if I end up with theSport. This may add even more to theground clearance when I upgrade the tires. Am I the only one that noticed the difference in height and why wouldthe so call OR have a lower profile than the Sport model? It seems backwards to me. I realize the OR has 16” wheels and the Sporthas 17” but that should only make a half inch difference between the two modelsheights.

    Thanks in advance,

    Joel

The wheels don't affect height any, they have the same diameter tires.

Did you notice the height difference in the back? the sport comes with a 4 leaf pack vs the off-roads 3 leaf pack.

Yes is was in the rear that I noticed the difference, it must be the spring package.

    Thanks,
    Joel

I've had both. I had a 2013 TRD Sport Access cab, now I have a 2014 TRD Off Road Double cab. The prices are similar on both packages, but you get more functionality out of the Off Road package. Also, the ride is much smoother in the Off Road.

A 4th leaf is a lot cheaper than a set of 17" tires. But honestly for snow the stock tires on both suck. But the off road tires suck less and 16" tires are cheaper than 17's. The off road actually has some skid plates and a real tow hook on the front too. You may want to shop around a bit too. There are a number of Toyota dealers within about an hour of you (Portsmouth, Ira in Manchester, Grappone, Irwins...) I've looked at a few trucks in the past at the dealer you're looking at and always wound up going elsewhere to buy. They just didn't seem to want to deal, prices on used trucks were insanely high, and they always offered about 2/3 of what other dealers gave me in trade.

It's all in what you really need or want. The height you can change for very little cost. I had an offroad access cab before I bought my sport DCLB. As you know the offroad has the locker, which is nice. I needed the double cab space and I wasn't willing to give up the long bed. They don't offer the offroad as a DCLB so I got the sport. I was happy though about the color matching with no chrome. The scoop was a plus too. :D

I feel the the OR is lower. I don't have to hop as high to get into my OR then when I owned the Sport(both stock). It felt higher when I drove. It could have been just me. But from what others said here it's the same height. Maybe it was the skewp that made it taller.

The locking rear differential in the OR is extremely capable, and worth every penny if you get stuck in mud or snow (as I did last weekend). An AAL from Toytec is like $75 and an afternoon to install, if you're concerned about the 2+1 springs on the OR being weak. And let's face it, if you spend enough time on TW you're just gonna get an aftermarket lift anyway. My 2014 is two months old and it's getting an OME suspension system this upcoming weekend...

The 2014's I looked at this weekend - Sport and Offroad both had a 4 leaf spring packs on the rear. They were identical AND they are not the same springs at all on the 2013's.

New spring design for 2014. I've been paying ALOT of attention to springs since before I went in a got my Rear Spring TSB Done on my 2011 2.7L 4x4.

My stock springs were a 3 pack - same as they used to put on the Offroad.
My TSB Springs are 4 pack - same as they used to put on the Sport.

The new 2014's don't have either of these spring packs.

Oh yeah - and the Sport did feel higher on my test drives than the Offroad - I thought I was imagining it - but it was there.
