Awesome! A recall notice would be nice. So they could pay for it

Glad I moved out of the northeast. The winters are brutal and take their toll on vehicles. I have an 05 taco that has spent its life in Florida. The frame has no rust and looks pretty much as good as new.
Glad Toyota is doing right by you OP. Good luck

Holy crap! you guys don't have any anti-rust spraying shops around there? they are everywhere around here, i get my truck sprayed every year before winter. it's a 60$ well invested + i paid for a toyota factory parafine base coating that is garanteed 10 years. it was 500$ but if it shows rust anywhere, they fix or repair free of charge. technically, i don't have to re-shoot every year but i like to be sure... i also own a 1994 toyota pickup with the same maintenance and it barely has any surface rust spots after 20 years driving on salty roads...

Navel Jelly is a rust remover. If he used that there wouldn't be anything left.

If I find out anything more definite, I will pass it along.

The fact that they are replacing some '05s already should give hope.

Of course, my first day without the Tacoma, we had our first snow storm.

It was kind of sketchy driving a little Corolla without snow tires!!

(but, it will be worth it)

Glad to hear they are taking care of it, your 05 has about the worse case of orange cancer I have seen on a 2nd Gen. My 06 has a lot of surface rust underneath, at least I am hoping it's just surface. I will be checking out that hole behind the front tire tomorrow. Living at the beach, driving it on the beach a lot, well salt air is pretty damaging. The posts for my seat headrests have surface rust.

FWIW I sprayed the frame with some Formula 3000 and like that product, not a cure all but decent preventative care that's not costly.

Part of the Maine state inspection is to put the vehicle up on the lift and take a hammer to the frame. Just because it looks OK doesn't mean it is.

Those were the weakest spots on my frame, just behind the front tires on both sides, worse on the right by the cat. Some of that looked like surface rust.

    Good Luck.

Was at my dealership today. Talked with my service writer whom I've been dealing with above and under the table for years as we have had 8 Toyotas from them... 4 still in use, 2 newer than my Taco.

NEWay... he said they actually recalled a handful about 3 years ago. Outside of that... the frames are a case by case issue. They have to take pics, write it up, and send to corp for a decision. Mods WILL make a diff... and they will do their best to claim owner abuse cause. They had JUST bought back an 06 dbl cab PreRunner last month... he said the frame was cracked by the cat as well as the forward spring mount welds.

Apparently the 06 owner then bought a used 05 from their used lot, and still put 3G in the bank. The 06 was stock..., the 05 was 4X4 double with 33's, camper, and good suspension lift.

This thread helped me realize I need not worry about the underside of the cab or anything but strictly the frame lol
