Stokes.?. LOL.... stokes is a dirt road car path

 

Are you kidding me? Ive been there at least 3 times and once in 2' of snow and there wasn't anything technical.

Only thing technical was making a "K" turn so Josh and I could explore one of the closed trails.

What was "technical" about Stokes?

 

He had to huck a few big rocks on stock 4-banger tires?

 

Gonna have to have surgery on my heart after a while

While we are talking about stokes....
We got off the "dirt road" down to the river/Creek bed or what whatever it's called. ....lol....not every line on and off of it was stock taco friendly even if it looked like it was..... not super technical but it definitely was not just a dirt road.... there was also an instant where the road was blocked by a big tree that forced the majority of group to find an alternative way...

 

What was "technical" about it? Boulders, off camber trails, etc.

everyone's got their own classification for technical. I was wondering what I missed when I was there because I know I did not see it all, but it sounds the same to me.

Eddie would get stuck in the same off camber trail every year we went and I'd have to save him. I guess he decided to keep you guys away from it

To me was this particular spot where I was force to go on 4lo (I really wanted to do it on 4hi but was really beating my clutch).... I'm saying technical because to me the moment you stop to rethink a "technique" to make something work it becomes a little bit of a technical situation. ... but i also think that the level of something being second nature to becoming a technical situation evolves with experience. ..

Every one is entitled to their own opinions but not their own facts right? Well the FACT that I had to use different TECHNIQUES to make something work made it technical/methodical to me.
Hopefully I evolve into a smarter driver and things like that become more of a second nature

 

Also - Stick shift sucks offroad compared to auto. Much harder to shift while worrying about other things IMO. For that I love my auto when wheeling with you old school guys

Only time I have needed to wheel in 4L was in URE 3-4 years ago. It snowed and down there it's all clay so frozen wet clay hill descents required 4L. If I tapped my brakes the silly ABS would come on and try to kill me. Was locked into 4L and had the shifter on 1st.

 

my truck is full time 4wd, i usually don't use the low range - great for hill climbs. I use the 2 and L gears for water crossings and such.

Wheeling with a manual sounds like a nightmare.

 

I like the challenge and little by little I'm getting better at it.... I driven manual every day since sept 03 and learned how to drive on a manual at 11 years old so my cockiness has gotten the best out me wheeling.... lol
