    Fluids topped off? And fresh-ish?

While engaged in a certain gear or while idle? Certain speeds or???

Sure its your tranny? Have someone drive alongside and confirm. Check carrier bearing?

Front bearing is ready to go! If you drop the pan you'll find metal shavings on the pan magnets. I just went through this 3 months ago.

I ended up having the tranny rebuilt to the tune of $2800. It now runs as it should.

Was it a roller type bearing? And how many miles were on the trans?

My tranny had 172,000+ miles on it. Its easier to ask you to look up the definition of a roller bearing than it is to explain to you the different types of roller bearings made. There should be a picture you could look at to help you out.

Once a bearing starts to go out on you, there is no stopping it from degrading further. You realy should drop that pan and take a look inside to figure out what the problem is. Those little metal shavings the bearing sheds will circulate through your tranny and cause further damage. That's why you need to check it out sooner than later to give yourself a chance at a minimum repair vs an expensive one.

It doesn't take very long once the bearing starts to go! Hopefully you will in your driveway when it decides to give it up and not out on some country road in a snowfall.
