I only got 3 years/40K miles out of my OEM battery in my 2010 TRD (group 27F battery). Pretty disappointing as I got 10 years and 148K miles out of my gen1 OEM battery.

Lead sulfation starts when the charging voltage is removed from a lead-acid battery and starting batteries are designed to produce thousands of shallow discharges of 5% or less over it's lifetime. A smart temperature compensated charger like a Battery Tender Plus is an excellent way to keep the battery fully charged which will not allow lead sulfate crystals to form and extend the service life of a battery. While garaged, I use continuously connected smart chargers in cold weather on all my vehicles for easy starting in sub-freezing temperatures. The rest of the year, I periodically "top off" my batteries with a smart temperature compensated charger. The frequency varies depending on the temperature and driving habits.

For more information on sulfation, charging and chargers, please see Sections 16 and 9 in the Car and Deep Cycle Battery FAQ on www.batteryfaq.org.

The heaviest battery wins because it will have more lead in it. Thicker plates = more Ah or RC and greater plate surface area = more CCA or CA. The length of the free replacement warranty is also a good indicator of quality.

My buddy's 07 is on it's last leg, but still working-he's at about 70k miles with lots of short trips. My '07 got a new battery over a year ago with about 25k miles. I've had batteries go 9+ years, I've seen them bad on the shelf. Manufacturing, use, and mostly luck will determine how long one lasts.

My OEM battery lasted from Sept 2008 to January 2013, so just over 4 years. Then the brakes were going too, fronts were below 20% and rears were around 30%. Spent about $900 replacing both the battery and brakes.

Just a heads-up if your concidering the oem replacement...

My 07 is still going strong but i know it's only a matter of time. Checked with Toyota service dept. on the price for a new group 27f... $165 (includes free install.)
Hung up and re-dialed the parts dept and talked the pd manager down from $165 to $125. They have everything so marked up there's plenty of romm to wheel and deal... just mention the prices you see online.

I've got a 2002 Dodge Ram with 123,000 miles on it. Still has the original battery , and spends every winter outside and has never given me a bit of trouble. That being said, I don't feel lucky trusting it another year and am going to replace it this fall.

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
Old man emu makes batteries?:eek:

    lol, just messing around.

I have bad luck with battery life myself.

This is all true, but luck will go a long way. I got 9+ years from my motorhome battery. It was still working, but we were going on a long trip in cold weather and I decided it was time. It never had a tender or charger on it during the off time and it's an old carbureted big block that takes a lot of cranking to start. It got fully drained several times due to the aftermarket cruise control being wired straight to the battery. I didn't know about this and if it was parked with the cruise on it'd go dead....took a long time to figure that one out. I continued using that battery for a long time around the house for testing stuff. It was a walmart battery, I think the yellow top three year one.
I once bought a new battery that was totally dead from the start, wouldn't even accept a charge. I now test them before buying and occasionally find a big variance in cranking amp capacity.

Replacing my wife's 4 runner battery Thursday. It's been in since December 28 2005. Still works fine, but I want a new one in there before winter.

I always replace my batteries at 5 years even if they still check good. I just do not want to get stranded.

well. may have jinxed my battery. yesterday, it was cool weather, and i got that slow turn over crank. truck almost didnt start.

i'm gonna tap out. new battery purchase today after work. there is a local shop that has done so many things on my truck and my MIL's car for no charge, i am going to buy the battery from them. and let them install it. haha.

he always refuses my money. i feel better spending the cash with him..at least i know he will take my money this time.

going with an Interstate. almost made it to 2014 with my 2006 OEM battery. "this" close. oh well. this is my hunting truck. i cant afford to get stranded in the woods. it is NORCAL pig hunting season.
