You need 3 layers ideally. a base (your UA), a mid (fleece is great), and an outer wind/rain shell. Look for moisture wicking fabrics and jackets that have zippers in the arm pits to help regulate your temperature and keep you dry. Got an REI nearby? They'd be your best bet at finding the right stuff.

I went through 4 jackets and 3 mid layers before I found stuff that works for me when I'm snowshoeing. If there's ever to be a time to be dry but warm (not hot) its when you're out in the middle of nowhere in the dead of winter.

    Northface > REI :p

My jacket and fleece must be 15 years old now and still take whatever mother nature throws out.

Argument invalid. REI carries northface brand

    .
yeah I got UA fitted leggings and the sweat pants, that pretty much works for my legs which stay pretty warm from the pedaling, the fitted top is a life-saver, i have a cotton shirt over that which i change into a dry one halfway through the ride, over that is a UA hoodie which is pretty warm but not as wind proof as i would like, my core is colder now. I have a neck thingie and a knit cap along with the hood is pretty good. My gloves are pretty good, they have these pockets that you can tuck your fingers into which act as a wind break. The feet are the big issue, usually tennies with toe warmers, thermal socks and those rain/wind bootie thingies that you put over them works pretty well. I gave one to my ex gf to sew up but i haven't got it back yet, def needed it last night. Don't have a lot of extra $$ to buy warmer shoes at the moment so I will have to make do with what i have. Maybe some duct tape around the toes to act as a wind break, i don't care what it looks like, i just need it to be warm. I'll tell ya what i really want, rechargeable electric socks found some a while back, three settings, highest of which will cook your feet, pretty pricey though. I'm thinking I may have no choice, when your feet are cold, you are gonna be miserable period.

yeah, i'm thinkin I need to rethink the mid and outer layers on the upper, fleeces are good, definitely need a better windshell, i'm seating like crazy when i ride.

 HIya OTG. Saw the pic you posted of the grandkid...he's getting big!

Yup. I thought people were crazy for spending big bucks on gear but I've learned the hard way that sometimes its worth it. And if you're out enough its probably cheaper in the long run since you almost never have to replace anything.
I just love REI because of their 100% guarantee and they have a good variety of stuff.

    Hiya

Cotton is your enemy - if you're wearing a cotton shirt you might as well soak your under armor in water and stick them in the freezer before you go out. Pretty much has the same affect. Cotton soaks up moisture and is super slow to dry so once you're wet and cold you're going to stay wet and cold. Get all synthetic or wool stuff. Look for a shell that's made for biking, jogging, or cross country skiing - they're made to be warm but breathable and give you full range of motion for your body.

    Boo Boo! :)

Forgot to add REI is on the long list of companies who support efforts to close down vehicular access to the outdoors. Sadly so are some of the other companies I have supported in the past.

I still have a Northface tent and sleeping bag from the 70's. Stuff just keeps working well.

Hi Lisa, yea, he's getting big! Still going to call him a little rat though...Here's another pic, last one I swear. I know grandkid pics are boring, but this one is of Jodi, the rat, and the puppy.

I saw a young guy/kid a couple of weeks ago "walking" a 6 mo old pit. He had a prong collar on the dog and it was still pulling like a fiend. Told him he needed to look into obedience classes. Pup was friendly, but didn't want to see the guy trying to walk him, when he had doubled in size and gained strength.
