I get out at 10, then I've gotta make a quick booty call before getting home to finish this bastard up. And by booty call I mean watching Dr. Who with my woman so my booty supply isn't cut off

The older compass/temp display will fit in a 2012+ if you remove the whole roof console, but you'd have to find a replacement 2005-2011 console for that, not just the screen.

I'd like to get my hands on a 2012+ rearview mirror to make something that'll fit inside that. I'd humour the idea of someone sending me their 2012+ mirror and rigging it up to fit inside and display the data from behind the glass as the stock temp/compass gauge does. You may not have enough room behind the mirror to put the entire setup, but at least the display and then run the logic and sensor boards above the sunglasses holder. You should tear yours apart and send me some pics :) I'll let you know if you could make it work.

One does not simply purchase beta stuff :p
Can you solder? Rob has graciously made the whole thing open-source so there's a list of components and wiring schematics on github. I'd buy a few chips from him (4$/piece) and ask that they come pre-loaded with the code so you can rig the whole thing up yourself if you want it by christmas.

Ohhh, you're one of those ;)

Buy all of this: https://github.com/camerontech/offroad-cpu-hardware with spares of all the little bits (digikey has cheap shipping for almost everything, sparkfun for the rest)
and two of these just to be safe: https://cameron-tech.myshopify.com/products/atmega
and then connect the dots: https://github-camo.global.ssl.fast...2652f696d616765732f736368656d617469632e706e67

Not too hard, and then you've done some of it yourself!

All done for the most part. I REALLY need to do a faceplate and angle it more towards the drivers side. I'll wire it up when I can.

I just mounted the unit and put my dash back together. It was cold and I needed my heat controls

    Might actually install it here

Got to work a little early so I pulled my dash apart again. Remote wires are just a wee bit too short, so I'll have to figure something out. I wish they were longer without me having to extend them. I suck at soldering wires together.... Like really badly.

Also further notching out the dash plate to prepare for a faceplate I'll be making out of some thin sheet metal. Hopefully I can make that somewhat presentable.

So just heat shrink them. When I have to work on wires in my truck I usually use a lighter to melt heat shrink nice and tight a twisted together connection in lieu of soldering or in addition to.

Got mine all built. Goes together pretty easily, works nice.

Already sold it to a cow-orker who liked it that much.

I think you've got a winner with this thing.

Just found this, looks awesome! Can't wait till you get it in a production package and I can get one. Not sure my skills are quite up to putting one together myself...

I got the unit power and connected the sensors!

Got too lazy to extend the wires for the switch so.... Yeah, I just poked them out the side of my HVAC panel for now.
    uqe3a2av_78092d54300c3a6bf71c2aa16ecce4d653e40a26.jpg

Overall, I love this thing! The one downside is mounting the unit. Two screw holes are covered up by the backpack, making mounting a difficulty.

Also if Rob could source it, having an OLED black and red screen would be awesome because it wouldn't wash out after a certain degree of view. I kinda have to sit way back to see the screen super clearly, but who knows, it might be visible during the day, I sure do hope it is!

When I make the faceplate I will be angling the screen towards the driver's seat (up and to the left) so viewing it will be easier. For now I just followed the contour of the dash and that isn't ideal for this application.

I will give more info on compass function and such tomorrow when I take it for a spin!

Thanks for the awesome product Rob!

Inclinometer seems to be too sensitive. Maybe reduce the refresh rate a bit? I don't need to see my truck go from 0 to 1 degree 10 times a second. Just a thought.
