Ok dumb question but I can't seem to find the answser. Do the '14 tacomas have automatic headlights? Most new cars do but I'm not sure about these? Meaning do they come on automatically when it gets dark and turn off when its light?

If you leave them on constantly, they turn off automatically after turning off the truck and opening the driver's door.

    That's kinda automatic...-ish.

They Dont, and im glad they dont. there many cases i have seen cars with automatic headlights get pulled over because the headlights dont come on with your wipers, which in most cases is illegal and results in a big ass ticket

Jeez, next people are going to want power seats, back up sensors, or Heaven forbid, heated mirrors.

I know a lot of places have that law for reasons that (to me) seem pretty obvious, but here in Maryland we also have a bunch of other stupid laws. Basically they just want our money in any way possible.

As far as just leaving them on all the time. Does anyone else do that? Is there any problems with this method to be aware of?

How fucking lazy are some of you people? How difficult is it to remember to turn your lights on. It's a miracle that you remember to breathe on a constant basis.

    ^^ This!

But seriously, Welcome to TW. MY '06 Chevy crapbalt has auto head lights and I prefer knowing for sure my truck lights are on in the rain.

I do it some, but the lights of the radio dim when the headlights are on and it can be a little difficult to read.

Also keep in mind that you can still kill your battery...

Open the door before shutting the engine off (passenger ever in a hurry to get out?)
Turn the lights off, then back on with the ignition off.

Pretty sure they stay on if the key is left in ACC... like parked listening to the radio.

They aren't really automatic. Instead, they have a safety feature intended to help prevent you from coming out to a dead battery, but it is not fool-proof, and a couple of members have related situations where the system has NOT shut off.

The thing that pisses me off is Toyota's, and others', trend towards running the dash lights 24/7 for better visibility when the cluster is shadowed... but the dash lights are the driver's only cue that his lights are on or off during dusk.

Every day, I see dozens of cars on the freeway with NO lights, or only their DRLs... and when I pass them, I see a fully illuminated dash.

That stupid little light bulb icon on the tach face is NOT an adequate indication. Either automatic lights should be standard (and come on with the wipers), or the dash should be dark when the lights are out.
