I'm happy with my used 2009 Tacoma. My other vehicle sips gasoline. If I'm not careful the V6 in my Taco binges. Not a complaint with the manufacturer, but more with my driving. All the power I need, when I need it and fairly comfortable ride for a mid-size truck.

I had a 2012 Kia Forte Koup SX that I loved! It had all the bells and whistles: 6-speed auto transmission with paddle-shifters, sunroof, leather heated seats, keyless entry, keyless ignition, satellite radio, navigation, bluetooth and it looked great. On top of that, I got 25 mpg! Bought it brand new at the dealership for $25k and sold it 20 months later for $15k. It just didn't hold any value... All those bells and whistles were nice and I miss them but I love my new 2013 Tacoma that has cloth seats, no sunroof, aftermarket pioneer navigation/satellite/bluetooth radio (which sucks!) and only gets 14 mpg. I have a feeling it is going to hold its value a little better.

I've had my 2013 for around 7-8 months. I'm counting the days till it's paid off, can not wait to get rid of it.

A slew of pricey stuff my wife hates me for.
Lemon, or just not what you expected?

And after two years I still love mine. I wish the diff bearing didn't hum, which in turn makes my dashboard rattle. That's a bit annoying.

I baby the thing, and it seems there is always an issue with it. Kind of shitty, since I have put a lift in it etc. I actually enjoy driving my '93 more, no rattles, 0 annoying vibrations, quality of that thing is unreal.

I could care less about fuel economy, which is why I'll be going for a diesel next time.

    Why continue ownership?
Maybe you are in a negative equity position? Or I'd trade sooner than later.

The truck I'm looking at is around 70k, so I'm taking my time and making sure it's all that.

I'm just not happy with the driveline shudders/vibrations. My 13 year old Chevy was smooth as glass with 186,000 miles on the clock. This truck vibrates and or shudders depending on the speed (shudders around 40 mph, vibrates at times at 65 and above) OEM tires did it, the DuraTracs do it and I've even had the DuraTracs re-balanced.

The 40 mph shudder almost feels like the engine is missing or there is something in the driveline that isn't smooth.

After years with Ford minivans, JEEP SUV's, and 3 Rav4's, I"m just so happy to be back in a Taco since this is my 3rd Toyota mini-truck. Had others like a 1980 5 spd short bed, 1984 SR5 long bed, and now this 2007 Access Cab long bed, 5 speed 2.7L 4 Cyl. I'm liking it... Then again, it sure beats getting cancer like my relatives in the past. :D

    cheers and happy trails,
    Barney

I love it in many ways. It is almost a perfect vehicle with some obvious annoyances.

The "whistle." I have heard many complain about the whistle noise created by the weather stripping behind the grill. There is a whistle created when you drive between 35-45 mph that is incredibly annoying.

Toyota has often denied its existence, probably because acknowledging and fixing this issue would cost them lots of money. They have also gone as far as voiding people's drive train warranties when they fix this very annoying problem on their own. A fix by the way which I think is quite harmless.

Sadly they've known about this for over a year and they didn't fix it in the new 2014 models. LAME.

There is a tad more wind noise when driving than I had in my 2003 Tacoma.

The other problem I have had is with the "top of the line" radio I bought in it randomly rebooting. They replaced the head unit to the stereo and the problem persists. I said I want the "extension unit" replaced and they are being difficult about it. They insist that they have to witness the problem which is tough.

One other thing I don't like is that the temperature handle in the car automatically turns on the A/C when I dial it to maximum cold. This is lame because sometimes I just want to have the coldest air possible coming form the outside. It also switches the button to automatically recycle inside air which is also contrary to my wanting the coolest possible air coming from the outside.

CUSTOMER SERVICE in general has been my biggest gripe. I don't think Toyota is willing to stand behind their product in fix it when there is a known problem. They seem to want to deny the very existence of well established issues that have been highlighted online and in these forums by other Tacoma owners.

Other than these gripes, this is nearly a perfect vehicle, but the notion that there is a design flaw that causes such an audible whistling sound is unacceptable. It is not something I would expect from a product that is in so many other ways a beautiful design.

The truck is an awesome one other than these few idiosyncrasies that I have outlined above. I can't think of any other "problems."

The company is the problem. They don't automatically stand behind the product with a willingness to fix it when it's under warranty. They pretend that issues don't exist when they clearly do. They make you fight to get the job done instead of making it easy.

Enough said...there's still no other truck that I'd rather have, but I want the Customer Service to step up because they are lacking BIGTIME.

Agree. And to expand, I also wish the ignition area where the key goes in was lit. My mom's 08 highlander has it so I don't see why it isn't standard in all of their high end vehicles.

Absolutely love my 2013 Tacoma, but there are two things I would change:

    1. More backlighting on dashboard switches.
    2. The option to have purchased heated exterior mirrors

My '09 Access just turned 5 years old last month. The very first thing to break happened yesterday which was the left turn signal bulb burned out. Not bad, eh?

I have had, a 1980 Toyota regular cab 4X4, a 2006 Tacoma Double Cab 2WD, a 2012 Tacoma Double Cab 4X4, and now a 2014 Tacoma Double Cab. Each has given better service than should have been expected, and, I expect a lot. Not to say I don't have a wish list for each, and regret Toyota did not offer some options on one or another, and also they deleted some options in the 2014, like the auto dim mirror with temp and compass(I know that's petty). But, the platform vehicle is hard to beat. I pull a 7k lb boat and trailer with ease, around Miami, plus, I get decent mileage at an honest 20mpg on the road to and from my hunting camp in Ga. @ 72mph expressway driving over and over for years.Obviously I am not a hard core off-roader, but for my purpose this has been an above expectation vehicle, in all regards.

Having only owned my taco for six weeks I think it's awesome except I would really love if they offered a height adjustment on the seat for the non-double cab tacos (if they even offer one?). My torso is tall for my height so my eyes are looking out pretty high up in the windshield.

I love the simplicity of it though. Coming from a 2005 Audi A4 with all the bells and whistles (many which of broke between 120k-165k miles and were not cheap to fix) I do appreciate the simplicity. Less to go wrong in the long run.

Lastly, I do have to say that while the engine is not really modern compared to the recent 300hp v6 offerings from other companies it's nice to be buying into a mature platform with most of the kinks worked out or documented. I have a feeling though that we'll see a major redesign in the next year or two limiting new aftermarket development as it shifts to the new platform.
