The dealer by me has a stack of frames in the back of their service dept. They are great about not giving owners a hassle. Toyota scion of scranton in PA

I just got off the phone with Toyota corporate headquarters and told them about the frame issue, they said to me if the dealership deems the frame unsafe that Toyota would replace it at no cost to me. He also said that the majority of the frame issues are from tacos from the Indiana plant not the texas plant. But again they will replace the frame free of charge. Here is the number that I called 800-331-4331 and the guy I spoke with his name is Martin I'm not sure if that helps anyone out there but I hope it does.

I rode to a biker gathering in Nelson, BC a couple years ago.
Apparently that's where a lot of the draft dodgers went...they're still there.
Tie-dies, head bands, sandals, paraphernalia head shops, flowery VW vans and all. "Peace man" They just have grey hair now.
Probably a few trust fund babies in there too. (Those are the lazy stoned ones that their folks send them $$ to just stay away from home)

So how is your frame living in BC there must be plenty of salt on the road from now until April. What have you done to keep it from rusting thru ? Thanks. Curious George

I've got no rust issues and I've never done anything in regards to protecting my frame. I'm in southwest bc so we get basically no snow. I've done a fair bit of driving to the interior in the past but neve had. An issue with even surface rust on my frame. It's rains a hell of a lot here but I've never had issues from that either. I didn't add any undercoating or anything when I bought the truck from the dealer either.

I'm assuming the owner had a hand in the whole process after you sent the card. Kind gestures like this are rare these days.

Thanks for your honest reply. The fact is the frames are shitty. You have no salt so you might as well be in FLA or CA or anywhere else in the southern USA. Anyone in the northern USA with a Tacoma has frame rust. If they have never done any preventative maintenance they probably have a lot of rust and some holes in the frame if it has any age on it. It's a shame that Toyota doesn't give a shite about their shitty frames but they obviously don't. Their frames have been NG for at least 15 years that I know of from personal experience. Why they don't do a better job is the question ? Other trucks don't rust like ours. Everything usually come down to $$ money but how many customers are they going to lose over this issue and how much will that cost them plus all the frame replacements and buy backs I read about.

My truck has been in the shop for two weeks as of today.
Of all years winter has started early and there have been two storms that I wished I had 4WD (They are letting me use a new Corolla) and it sounds like we have another one coming Monday.
My wife drove by the shop today, since it is right near her work, and took this picture. My face dropped when she showed it to me. I shouldn't have been surprised, after all, I new they would have to separate the body from the frame but seeing the bed sitting outside like this:
    did.
She said that all the lights were stripped out, too.
I didn't realize they would have to take it down that far, I thought they would just disconnect the wires.
I guess I won't be getting it back next week, but soon hopefully.

Well, It's been almost 3 weeks and no word, so I called the shop today and found out what has been taking so long.

There was a frame mix-up. They got a frame in but it was for a 2WD. Mine was sent 60 miles north and it has taken them over a week to figure out how to swap them. (The body shop manager finally sent a flatbed up to get it yesterday and wasn't too happy about it.)

So, It is being put back together now and I should have it the first of next week.

He said that the guy doing it could do it in his sleep - he has done 400 of them.

When I asked him about a recall, he said he didn't know where that stands, but mine is being done as a 'courtesy'. (I am not sure what to think of the word 'courtesy') He also said that the dealers would love a recall because they were allowed 58 hours to replace an '04 frame during the recalls but now Toyota only allows them 35 hours for a 'courtesy' replacement. Maybe that is why the dealers don't want to do them yet??

While they are still making money on the 'courtesy' replacement, they will make lots more if (when) there is a recall. So it seems the dealers might want a recall as much as we do.

I can't wait to get Sporty back.

My brother in law is getting a new frame under his soon. He's just waiting for the call and he'll drop it off. The dealer he's working with was hinting at another service campaign coming up too. So has the dealer where I buy my parts. When my dad was in the buyback process with his 98 they gave him a brand new 2012 double cab TRD to drive. Too bad they gave you a corolla.

I've done Eastwood internal frame coating on mine and KB coatings chassis saver system on the outside. And I just got a few gallons of fluid film and an undercoating gun.I'm pretty determined to not let mine rust.
