And the one thing the Frontier don't have is the shudder/vibration.
The Pro-4X also has a cargo light, trip computer, locking tail gate, metal bed and a very strong tailgate, one piece drive shaft. I am sure a redesigned Tacoma will bring them up to the level of what the Pro-4X comes with. Both are nice trucks. To truly judge them you have had to of had both. I have had both and both are great.

I've had both trucks and I wouldn't touch a Frontier with a 10 ft pole. Of course with the Frontier you get the radiator cross contamination, fuel sending unit issues, and with earlier models timing chain issues.

I'm not a big fan of the Frontier body and look compared to the Taco, but that's not the reason I went Toyota. Resale and reliability trumped all others. I have a buddy with a Frontier who just dropped over $4K on a new tranny due to the anti-freeze / transmission leak issue they are known for. :(

I had a 1995 Nissan Hardbody 4x4 that was lifted. It was a California truck and I treated it like my first born child. I washed and waxed the truck regularly. I even rinsed the undercarriage on a regular basis and dried it. I did all the maintenance in a timely manner.

Even with my care, the frame started to rot and squeal after 100k miles or so. Nissan refused to do anything about it and I had to get rid of the truck.

I would never buy another Nissan truck because of that. Toyota at least seems to stand behind their frames w warranty.

I had a '94 Hardbody, loved that little truck but only had it a few years before I had to trade it in on a grocery-getter. :( So not enough time for any real issues to surface...

Agree on Nissan not standing behind their vehicles. Years back my 2002 Maxima had a bad tack-weld in the right rear wheel-well that began bubbling when the car was only a few years old and still under factory warranty. Took it to the stealership on more than one occasion, fought with them and heard every excuse in the book and was put off till I finally gave up and said "eff it". Eventually gave that car to my daughter, but that bad weld has rotted to a quarter sized hole in the fender.

I don't have experience with a newer Tacoma, but we owned a 2010 Frontier Pro-4X and it was an amazing vehicle. Very capable stock with plenty of protection (we pushed it to the limits a lot). Very comfortable with a ton of great features.

However gas mileage sucked compared to the Tacomas, and we didn't keep it long enough for me to say anything about durability.
