when playing with mine, wiggling the connectors from the bulb and high beam to the ballast turns off the light.

It is a ballasted system, not continuous voltage.

Someone recently posted concern about his ballast only outputting 8 volts... they don't run the lamps on low voltage DC.
The ballast builds energy until there is enough to create an arc in the lamp. The output voltage then balances at what is needed to maintain the arc.

Wiggling the connector on a hot lamp is messing with voltages in the area of 20,000 volts, high frequency.
The lamp shutting off while messing with the connector, I would not be surprised that it requires a restart.

No problems with mine yet, but then again I've only had mine turned on for a total of probably 20 minutes if that.

from Nate @ TRS (found it on hidplanet.com), looks like the new ballasts ran into some bad parts

    Hi Guys,

This has nothing to do with the relay harness at all, that part functions just fine. We believe that we have narrowed the problem down to the igniter in the ballast. There was some small part of the last batch of ballasts that have had issues with failure to ignite on the first strike. The problem has been fixed and those people that have reported problems will of course be getting replacements.

    Nate @ TRS

If you are having any issues with ballasts at all please make sure to give us a call 404-220-7940 or send us an email to answers@theretrofitsource.com with a brief description of your issue and your order details.

In out last ballast shipment there was about 10-11% of the ballasts that are experiencing an issue with the igniter inside the ballast, which is causing the ballasts not to fire on the first attempt. Now that we know what the problem is and have a good way to test for it here this will not be an issue going forward. We are going to replace the ballasts of anyone that is having an issue.

We really appreciate your patience why we get this all sorted!
    Nate @ TRS

I spoke to Andrew this morning and the ETA for new ballast is Dec 10 according to him. Sucks that we have to wait couple more weeks again but at least we know that TRS is taking care of the problem and not running away from it. They are 100% backing their warranty and customer service!

i ordered a kit for my frs a few weeks ago. Both ballasts were bad. I emailed them and they sent me a very detailed description of whats wrong with the ballasts and stating that i could either wait till dec. 10th to receive the new ones or they would send me 2 of the same model ones but ones that would already have the problem fixed. After a few days of emails back and forth, they sent me 2 replacement ballasts of the same kind because i daily drive my car and need headlights. I opened that box up about an hour ago, plugged in the new ballasts and it took 4 times turning the switch on for 1 light to fire. Wait about 10 sec, do it again and nothing. Once again im stuck with 2 bad ballasts and no headlights. I cant wait to plug in my new FXR kit and see how well those ballasts work

Big fail for TRS at the moment. The only reason i say at the moment is my 3five ballasts in my truck right now have been excellent for 2 years. The only thing going for them currently is their excellent customer service. I wish i had some fucking working headlights though!!

I want to do this and can't wait to have extra money. When you get the lights what do you have to hook up? I know I have to take my lights out an send them to you once i get the lights that are done. Correct or am I missing something.

Admittedly there is a small percentage of a large batch of ballasts in circulation that have issues amplified by cold weather.

With this generation of ballasts, we made the body slimmer and one drawback of that is the supplier used a smaller igniter unbeknownst to us. This is one of the issues.

We also found that the flickering/pulsation in the ballasts is due to a design flaw in a circuit on the circuit board of the ballast.

Both of these issues have been located and we currently have approx. 1,500 ballasts being built to the new specs just for the sake of replacing those effected. All future ballasts will adopt these features, but the ballasts in production right now are just for those with issues.

We sincerely apologize for the issues which we just became aware of about a month ago and are working as quickly as possible to get each and every affected customer taken care of. We understand it's a massive inconvenience and we are very appreciative of your patience.

We've never had an issue like this before and that's why it really took us by surprise.

I think if you plan to have them cone on with dtrl or parking lights; you just splice the wires together

I think having a harness will be more Hassel. What I wanted was to connect the halos to a switch to turn them on when ever I want. But don't know how that would work
