Gas mpg!!!

i have a 09 v6 4x4 dc long bed and i am only getting like 14 mpg with normal driving. i have 1000 miles on it. i am being told that the factory oil is thicker and when i change it my mpg will increase. did any of you see a increase in mpg after your first oil change? and yes i know i got a truck and i expected this but i would like to improve it if possible.

Well I never had any less then 17 mpg. I would see what happens over a few tanks before being concerned.

 

My last tank got me 20.6 mpg (combination highway/suburban driving). I have 3500 miles on my 08.

 

I have 09 4x4 access OR w/ tow. pkg. When I do mostly city driving, I suck alot of gas. The longer I am on the highway, the better I get. That is obvious of course however I must have a heavy foot because I get 14-16 in just city. I don't drive alot of miles in a week, so long road trips I cannot comment on yet. But If I do a mix of 30mi/day highway (x6) + 140mi city I get about 17-19. Never have gotten over 20 for the whole tank. Even on 93 and synthetic.

I have found that on my 09, as soon as you hit that pedal it sucks gas.

 

What is normal to you and what is normal to me could be two entirely different things.
Was this mostly city driving? how hard are you on the throttle?

I have a 09 dbl cab 4x4 OR and have been getting 19 + from day one doing combined driving and got right at 24 on a road trip. I just recently changed my oil for the first time, to syn 5w 30 (4500 mile) and it did not change the milage one bit, and I did not expect it to.

Now I am 48 yrs old and you are 21, I say we have totaly different driving styles.

 

My last tank got me 286 miles before the light came on. Ouch.

 

Same here. I am always just under 300 miles, and the light comes on.

 

I'd say you young guys (I was there once) need to put an egg under your gas pedal, try not to break it and your mpg will increase.
I get 340+ consistently before the light come on.

 

I'm not an aggressive driver by any means. But, the stop and go traffic in California, and my truck being a manual & 4x4 OR (which is rated lower mpg than the autos) doesn't help either. Right now my 09 has approx 7k miles.

I'm at 10k now and noticing an increase. The mileage is much better then my old 99 f150 though. I'm getting an average of 550km's on a tank. Not sure what that is in miles.

 

I have a 08 4x4 double cab, I go over 600km before the light comes on, in what I would call mixed driving, but weighted mostly to suburban driving.

600km = 372 miles. I take it easy with the gas pedal.

I noticed the mileage got better for some reason at around 12000 miles. I hadn't change to synthetic yet and did nothing that I can think of that would change the mileage.

 

09 Dbl Cab 4x4 TRD with v6 3800 miles and I get 14 or 15 city driving like a granny. Maybe 18 on the highway running 70mph.

 

08 Double cab 4x4 OR, Dallas traffic. Depending on my driving habits I get anywhere from 17-18.5. I typically use 93, but just switched to 87 to see if there is a $/mi difference. I "think" there is a bit of drop in initial acceleration, but I figure that is a bit placebo at the moment. Let's see how my milage and $/mi are on this first tank. I have been driving pretty consistant the last few tanks, and avoided a lot of mashing the pedal.

 

I average 20-21 MPG per tank, this is city and highway driving.

 

I'm a leadfoot with big tires and I get 17.5 MPG ... somethings really wrong! I got the same gas mileage with 9k pounds combined across the country towing.

 

I just watched Myth Busters and they performed a test on MPG on trucks. The result was leaving the tailgate up or using a tail gate net will get you better gas mileage than a sungtop or camper shell. I was very surprised also!
