2wd wheelin gear?

So i have no fallin in love with wheelin, would like to know a few things that would be good for me to have... wouldnt be going alone, so just a few things that i would need for necessity
I know a recovery strap but which one, etc
so i have a Prerunner dbl cab no locker

always carry a shovel and some TP cuz you never know when you'll be grabbing the "Oh SH!T" Handle and remember to keep your wheels spinning and momentum up!!

 

Good point on the TP. I learned this the hard way working in the field. Nothing like wiping your ass with a leaf.

I would carry a +/- 20k snatch strap, shovel, portable air compressor, first aid kit is a must, basic tools (10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 17mm, 19mm) sockets and wrenches, a board maybe and possibly a come along winch.

EDIT: And of course shackles to go with your snatch strap.

 

looking at a smittybuilt strap, but any ideas on a compressor that works good and can be pwered by the dc outlets on our trucks

 

good call on the winch. around where i live, its desert, no trees, a winch wouldn't do me any good out here a shovel, well thats what you get for getting your dumbass stuck in the first place with no one to help you and no service on your cell phone but no you wanted to be cool and show off and then your parents get mad at you then you go home and cry yourself to sleep like a girl all weaksauce.....wait what was i talking about?

oh right, SC pretty much nailed it, i have to fart really bad so its hard to think.

 

Any compressor that can pretty much inflate 32 in tires. I know we have one at work (autozone) that are "suitible" for SUV's, Offroading. It works off the cigarette light outlet. The only thing I'm concerned about is how hot it would get inflating say all 4 tires from 20 psi to 40 or 44. It will inflate a tire in i think 5 mins. also the size is something too. you might need a place to put it. i like to keep things low-pro so i'd put it where you can't see it and i'd still be able to fit 5 people inside. Thats just me though.

 

I have a cheap-o 12v compressor that I bought a couple years back. It works alright and gets the job done, but best of all it fits under the passenger side seat. it will take about 3 minutes to fill up a 265/75r-16 tire from 17 pounds to 35 pounds. It can also get a little hot if you try to hit all four at once, so that can be a little bit of a problem if you are in a rush.

Honestly the best way to go IMO is a quality, portable air compressor like the VIAIR 400P. they do cost $300, but you get what you pay for. Then again I have been using my cheap 40 dollar compressor for a while now and it is still going strong, for now.

With my old truck I had a CO2 setup which also worked very well. A high volume regulator allowed for air tools, and also speedy fill ups. You could get about 50-60 tires from one tank full. The only down side is the cost. A good regulator is going to run you $200 or more, and the tank can be upward of $100-150. then you probably want a mounting system, and of course fill ups when it runs dry.

 

should i get a couple shackles to atach the recovery strap? and im looking this compressor

Go ahead and grab a couple shackles. Your recovery strap will not have hooks, so you will need them.

As far as the compressor goes, I have seen a fair amount of people using that same compressor. It seems to work pretty good and is priced pretty well. If it did go out, at that price you could always just buy another.

I carry, a set of wrenches and sockets, vice grips, Pliers, and screwdrivers as tools.
Shovel, Recovery strap (2x20 ft) (mines is made by CBI), tow strap (2x20), hi lift, 2 spare tires, alot of flash lights (got a streamlight stinger always charging in the truck), 2 rolls of tp, road flares, and An air compressor.

 

All you need is SPEED. Go at it like "Ivan Stewart."
