I won't ever own a GM. Even if someone paid me to own one. Nope. But hopefully toyota will get a diesel now :spy: Probably won't happen, but we can hope, right?

And the manual is only available in the base WT (work truck) trim... GM's equivalent of the base 5-lug.
I would not expect it to be available in the offroad package.

ATO front skid (need more but icon's might fail if I hang anything else from my truck) All-Pro front bumper thanks to a good deal here and a pesky encounter with a rock or 20, total chaos uppers.
Checked it out at the LA auto show, have to say it looks real good in person. The interior was just ok, better than a Tacoma but not great. It definitely drew a good crowd. Really interested in the pricing with a diesel. Also got to check out the new jeep grand with the diesel option. That's another really nice looking vehicle. Not in any rush to get rid of the taco but after looking around the show the Tacoma really needs some updates if they want to stay on top.

Well it's a fresh and modern redesign. When Toyota finally redesigns the Tacoma, I expect them to hit it out of the park.

Look at the difference between the 1st gen and 2 gen......it's like night and day. I was blown away the first time I saw a 2nd gen.

This is gonna be a repeat of what the midsize truck segment was a decade ago. 2005, they redesigned the s10 to Colorado, major redesign for the 2nd gen Tacoma and a redesigned Frontier all in the same year (maybe GM was 2004).

GM is trying to get the jump start on potential buyers for the next generation of mid size truck buyers. Yes, I agree this next gen truck is pretty damn good looking compared to long-in-the-tooth current gen midsizers. If the other two (Toyota, Nissan) redesign their midsizers to retort this truck, we'll have a repeat of what the sales were a decade ago. Toyota will redesign a better, safer, more economic, better looking truck, outselling the competitors once again. Nissan will have the power and options and probably be at a standstill with fuel economy, with a sleaker, more appealing design and the GM will just be a floater, really only appealing to those people who just want to buy American.

I have a few years left on my loan and wait for a redesign 2015/16 from all three to surface and make my decision then. It would be foolish to buy this truck when you aren't going to wait and see what the competition has to offer.

My lease will be conveniently be coming to an end right around the time that Toyota releases a truck that will smoke this POS Chevy.

I can't wait till the new Colorado comes out. The forums will become less buggy when the brand-traitors jump ship.

My eyes popped when I saw that 302HP from a 3.6L. How do they get these numbers without a blower? Even wrapping up to 6500 (the tach red line) doesn't seem to account for it. Seems closer to 4.0L performance.

BTW, I've already got the S/C on my new 2013 DCSB.

I just wish Ford would bring in their SA Ranger. Maybe this will prompt them to do so. Toyota has zero incentive to step up their mid-size truck game without any competition.

Direct injetion, high compression, dual cam variable valve timing (maybe an i-vtec type system even). Its not that hard nowadays.

Honda was getting 100hp/L back in 1988...

The engines just tend to have less torque and more high end HP.

Toyota better come up with something good.

My 4runner is nice and I got a good deal on it, but the newest Taco's are a ripoff. 35K for decade old technology? Yah, no thanks.

I'm going to be jumping ship if the next gen Tacoma doesn't deliver.

That's nothing new, really. There are plenty of engines out there getting over 300hp out of sub 4.0L naturally aspirated 6 cyl engines. Hell, even at Toyota. They've gotten a little over 300hp out of the 3.5L in the IS350 for years. Hyundai gets 350ish out of the 3.8L in the Genesis. Nissan/Infiniti over 330 in the 3.7L. Look at BMW. They got 333hp out of 3.2 naturally aspirated liters in the M3 back in 2001. Just to name a few. I guess if you're just used to the Tacoma engines it may seem eye popping. But the 4.0L in the Tacoma is kind of underpowered in the horsepower department compared to todays standards.

And as mentioned above Honda has squeezed great power out of naturally aspirated 4cyl engines for a long time.

I always have to laugh when I read these threads. Auto fanboys always have something bad to say about any other vehicle that's not made by their manufacturer.

The fact is that this truck is a complete game changer. Most people do not give a crap about off roading, lifting their trucks or running them to 400K miles with no problems. The average consumer wants to buy a car/truck that meets their needs, drive it for a few years, and get a new one. This new offering delivers everything midsize truck buyers have been asking for.

    Let's see:
    1) Small Diesel
    2) Leather/Heated seats
    3) Not as expensive/big as a full size
    4) Decent warranty that should cover the car for most consumers

The fact is Toyota is ignoring the market just like GM did in the past.

The Tacoma has 10 year old technology with a dated interior.

As far as reliability, my 4runner needed new calipers, rotors, and pads at 88K. It suffered steering wheel shimmy at 70K because of bushings in the struts going bad. The U-joints also went out before 100K.

Unless Toyota offers something huge, I'll probably be going to Chevy.

Why pay 35K for a Taco when you get a LOT more from Chevy for the same price?

The funny thing is, I've seen just as many high mileage Chevy's and Dodge's as Toyotas.

It's about the money for me (and most consumers). Most people aren't going to blindly buy a Toyota when they get twice the truck for the same price.

Hmm. So you're implying the '15 Colorado is twice the truck a Tacoma is? So you've been in one and drove it? Share some data points, specifically the pricing.

We heard that about the first Colorado, and the Ram "Hemi"
Not ignoring. Being conservative. Toyota, unlike Detroit with taxpayer money to play with, is hesitant to throw money into a product that may or may not be profitable (Chevy Volt?)
Diesel carries with it concerns. The "green" crowd doesn't like it. Fuel cost is now significantly higher (stations in my area are $0.10-$0.20 higher than premium). There's the whole issue of particulate trap regeneration and the need for urea. There is a false public perception that Diesel engines carry substantially increased maintenance costs.
There WILL be increased repair rates from friends and relatives of owners using the wrong fuel.

GM, Ford, and Fiat (oh, excuse me, Chrysler) know that they can rely on the government to bail them out when they make a bad business decision. Toyota, Nissan, and Honda can not rely on that.

The current Tundra was designed from the ground-up with the intention of getting a Diesel that would be competitive with the Powerstroke/Duramax/Cummins. Plans were put on hold as the market began to change and soften in 2005.
With the current market and Toyota's market share, they simply do not see the projected sales numbers to make it a profitable venture, or we WOULD have it today.
    This always gets me.
What do you want? It is functional. It is an inexpensive mid-sized truck. The new Tundra interior is very nice, and it carries a "very nice" price tag.
The only thing I see "dated" about the current Tacoma interior is the sound deadening could be a lot better. In many respects, the current truck has a lot in common with the old DLX.

But it's a truck. Personally, I don't care for an interior packed with plasti-chrome. Likewise, faux woodgrain borders on cheesy at the 20-30k vehicle range.
88k? That's not bad for pads. Mine just started getting into the metal at 95k.
Needed calipers and rotors? I'm going to assume that you toasted the pads and they ground into the rotors... then the backplate slipped out and the piston got into the rotor? That's what happened to my wife.
That's the last time she ignored a "strange grinding sound".
Lifted? I've driven a number of Toyotas to well over 100k and had none of those issues.
    Good luck.

You'll be back... just like me.
I wanted a Diesel and a truck with an updated dash.
    I spent over 50k on a 2006 Silverado Duramax.

    Guess what I'm driving today?

Ya... 3 recalls the first 6 months I owned that truck.
You'll get a lot more friends too. You'll be on a first-name basis with all of the guys in the service department at your dealership :D
