Toyota Fan Boi's, are strong in this thread...

It's a good small truck, some competition might make it better... Why argue against that?

Because obviously someone had a bad GM truck 20 years ago so clearly that means they will never ever make a good vehicle again.

Oh well people on the Chevy forums are laughing at us for buying shitty trucks that rust. It's all relative.

I'm all for competition making anything better.

But we've got the Non-Toyota Fan Boi's touting how awesome the Colorado will be when GM's track record with the old truck was dismal, and the reports on the new design coming from down unda are not much better.

Anyone expecting anything game-changing is in for a big letdown.

I'll admit. This is my first Toy.

Its a good truck, but it could be better, In a lot of ways. But it's hype on this forum isn't warranted, (i expect nothing less) and the chevy bashing also isn't warranted. Could both be better? (In the case of the Chevy Probably) but Yes.

Does the Chevy have to show up against the Tacoma, yes, because the Taco is the best option now. But saying the Chevy is a POS, this time because it has been in the past, isn't an objective analysis, because past performance doesn't guarantee future results.

I hope the Chevy is good, good to the point it puts sales pressure on Toyota... and I won't be offended if its better than the Tacoma.

    Ditto.

I really, really liked the interior on that Silverado, and there was plenty of room to work under the hood.
Leather, heated seats, dual zone climate control, separate rear seat audio controls, Bose system, dual seat position memory, automatic folding mirrors....
I traded an '03 Tundra for it, and in retrospect, I should have kept the Tundra.

In a full size truck, today, if I had a need for a Diesel for towing, I would still stick with a Duramax. The engine is good, the truck is okay.
Cummins is, at this time, the absolute best oil burner available on the consumer level... and it is wrapped in the absolute worst sheetmetal.
Ford has made a lot of progress on the Powerstroke, and today's engines are a far cry from the Navistar abortions, but there's still that underlying trust issue.

I've had bad experiences with four different Ford vehicles... and while it makes me hesitant to recommend another, if I were to select a gas-burning full size, it would be a coin toss between an F250 and a Tundra.... and that goes back to the "trust" issue. I just don't know if I trust Toyota for a solid HD truck. My '03 was great, but all I did with it was haul two dirtbikes and fairly lightweight equipment for work.
I needed the larger bed, but the only time I pushed its capacity was hauling concrete and ceramic tile for a couple of weekend projects.

Yea, all makes have had their ups and downs. I could write 3 or 4 pages on my experience. Early Toyota trucks would rust if you just mentioned salt.

So, give the Chevy a chance until it proves to be no better than the last Colorados.

Newer Toyota trucks suffer just frame rust. Early Toyota trucks have perforated beds, bedsides, and frame. :D

Do not expect 1) and 3) to happen on the same truck. And you are making a lot of assumptions about the "average" consumer. Think about how many 1st gen owners are still holding on to their trucks after 10+ years.

Well, judging by the Australian forum, you are equally likely to suffer the same issues with the Colorado. On top of that, you are more likely to suffer engine, transmission, and transfer case failures just outside the warranty period. The diesel comes with its own vulnerabilities (burnt turbo, clogged DPF, grenading fuel pump...). The diesel fuel pumps are built like a swiss watch (a necessity to generate the 30,000-40,000 PSI pressures) and will typically cost some $3000 to replace.

Remember, too, some of the Tacoma peeves (chirpng fan, burnt fan resistor, blend door actuator failure, etc.) are directly caused by GM (Delphi) parts. And Toyota's TSBs tend to replace them with Denso parts...

Even GM dumped the Delphi ECU and moved to the Bosch 32bit unit on the Duramax on the '06 LLY and LBZ.

Not sure how the Cummins is wrapped in "the absolute worst sheetmetal"
The Ram is a damn good truck, my dad is on his second, and sure I liked the old 2wd 2002, but this new 2012 is just so refined, and the interior is much more pleasing than the chevys out there.

Very interesting. I guess I've not really kept up. However, as noted, the high hp numbers all occur at very high RPMs. and the torque ratings are lower, and also, at higher RPMs. Since my main interest is trailer towing I'm more interested low end torque, Besides, there's just something un-nerving about an engine screaming at 6400 RPM. If only Toy would put a small V8 in the Taco.

I've seen the specs. Spec for Spec, it's way more truck than the current the Tacoma on paper.

    Colorado V6: 302 hp and 270 lb-ft.
    Tacoma V6: 236 hp and 266 lb.-ft.

And it has a diesel option that people have been wanting for years.

There is no other small diesel mid size truck on the market. It truly is a first of it's kind.

If I'm spending nearly 35k on a new truck, it needs to be competitive. The tech and interior is dated on the Taco and it's borderline econo box build.

Two of the trucks 4 calipers froze and had to be replaced. The pads were fine. The rotors were warped and caused shaking under braking.

    Not lifted.

The PX chassis Ranger and BT-50 has a few minor issues:

    http://www.fordaustraliaforums.com/...PX-Ranger-Faults-Concerns-Reviews-from-owners

The Taco Lean is worse on that truck, over 1" of height difference between left and right:

    http://www.fordaustraliaforums.com/forum/showthread.php?53536-PX-Ranger-XLT-4x4-not-sitting-level

In general the owners are quite happy. This forum is almost as good-natured as TW:

It looks like an old man's truck, and no matter what it looks like, it's still a Chevy underneath.

Why does this thread even exist? lol

I'm thinking this thread exists because everyone has been bitching and moaning for years that they've wanted a midsize turbo diesel option in the US that will tow, go off road and get 28+mpg highway and now that it's here, people just find more things to bitch about. Sums our economy up as a whole really, that no consumer is ever really satisfied.
